Beak help? (Prince Komali LoZ)

I'm working on a cosplay of Prince Komali from The Legend of Zelda - Wind Waker
(Here's a picture: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/images/...ers/komali.png)
And I'm having troubles with the beak.

I've seen people use craft foam for it, but I don't really like how that looks, so I'm sort of at a loss.

Does anybody have any ideas on different ways to make the beak?

paper mache would work, but honestly craft foam would be more comfortable. High end would be molded latex, but that is both more expensive and requires a higher learning curve than either paper mache or craft foam construction.

How would you go about doing the paper mache, though? Like how would you form that? Make it on top of some type of base?

I would check out a halloween store right now and see if they have a fake nose (just the nose part) and then use either cardboard, floral foam, expandable spray foam, and/or paper mache to build around the nose. That way you have a base to work off of with the fake nose.
