Need help with chainsaw

So I started working on my chainsaw for Juliet in Lollipop Chainsaw and the convention I am going to is coming close. My convention is in three weeks Most of it is out of paper mache and cardboard and I don't have any money to buy anything major like foam or wood.

So the question/dilemma, how can I securely attach the handlebar(s) to the main piece?

I was thinking of maybe bending a nail into the handle and the body and then paper mache around it.

(I clarify more as more people comment, I'm stressed on time and computer availability lol)

personally i woulda started with a cheap chain-saw or hedge trimmer and added to it,
giving you a more sturdy base to work off of

i think yous best bet using paper-mache would be wire-mesh
but i whoulnt know if that something you can still do or if you woulda had to start out with mesh first and integrate the pieces

I was actually thinking about using a "cheap chainsaw" but the lowest one I could find on craigslist was about 40 bucks and then I would have to take everything apart and make sure that it would be appropriate to take it to a con. But what is wire mesh? I still have some layers that I wanted to add so would I be able to do the wire mesh if I added more layers of paper mache?

wire mesh is something between window screen, and "chicken wire" fencing
used in various sculpting, sometimes as a base for plaster works
or to give added stability in more fragile spost in scupltuer, like reinforcing elbow, knees, tentacles and what not

theoretically it should work on your project, but i never done it, so im not sure how well it
would hold up,

i would think if you end up using a full wrap or just banding where parts attach,
as long as the mesh goes around that whole part, and as stitched together well,
it should hold quite well

I should have done a tutorial on this last time I made it ~_~.
Are you talking about the red handle and the silver handle?

What I did for mine, was I inserted the silver handle inside of the bottom part, where the black base tilts up. The other side, I had it put inside the gold part that covers the top of the handle. As far as the red handle. All I did was glue that down to the sides, such as Cosplay House has theirs on the side of the chainsaw base.

Ok! Change of plans. I did the following and need help in figuring out what to do and to make the best of what I go because I have no more extra money...besides 5 bucks.

a. I got a chainsaw on craigslist
b. Took out all of the working parts
c. bought acryilic paint (i hope this wasn't an ooppies)
d. bought paper

So what would be the best way on going about painting this chainsaw up? I've never used acrylic paint and my craft store had limited colors due them going out of business (got everything 50% off)
