I usually buy my zippers at Joanns or other fabric stores, but this particular costume I needed to make called for a specific kind of zipper. It wasn't complicated in any way, but it was just hard to find brown seperating zippers with brass teeth in varying lengths. So, I went and searched on google for a custom zipper website. After much debate, I settled on ZipperStop.com.
I ordered 6 zippers from them on September 24th, 2012. I received an email from them stating my order.
And then I waited. I never received any shipping confirmation. Below is the top of the original order confirmation email. As you can see, the order was on September 24th and the order status was pending.
So, I decided to send them an email. I was wrong in my video. I thought I sent the first email on October 5th, but it was October 8th.
As you can see, I did send the email to ZipperStop. However, I received no reply. Since their website states their hours, I knew they were there, but no reply.
So that is when I decided to use their contact form on their website.
The next two links are the emails I received back. Please read them from the bottom up (I didn't want to be accused of photoshopping these emails, so I didn't touch them). If you don't want to read them, I'll go over briefly what they state.
They tell me they tried to call me to tell me that the zippers I ordered in a custom color had to be made special and the price would be more.
This is a screenshot from their website (I also included the link to the website page itself, but I have no idea if they'll change this). I highlighted the portion about the other color. As you can see, no where on there does it say that these zippers would cost me more.
This is the email (again). I highlighted the portion where I ordered custom colors. As you can see, on my order confirmation there was also no mention of this extra charge.
I had to email them twice to find this information out. They made no attempts to contact me about this other than these supposed "phone calls." I'm sure they did call, but they never left me any voicemails. I go to school full time and work part time. Not only are there a lot of times where I straight up can't answer my phone, but I also get a lot of spam calls. If you call one of those numbers back? They'll know your phone number is active and they'll continue calling you. So, I tend not to call numbers back that do not leave messages.
And even if you ignore that information, I, like most people, don't call numbers back that don't leave messages because I assume they usually aren't important.
And just to say I covered y'all on all grounds, this is my voicemail. No calls from their New York number.
This is my recent calls. Today is October 12th. Although it doesn't match up, I'm guessing the 212 number is zipperstop. So, their first attempt to contact me at all about this issue? 17, 18 days after I placed my order.
Below is further proof that this was their first attempt to contact me:
I went ahead and started my recent calls from the day I ordered my zippers to the latest image from today that I posted above. As you can see, there has been no other attempt from this 212 number to contact me.
But getting back on track, I ask them before I called them back how much extra those zippers would be. As you can read for yourself, they took it upon themselves to mail off the package anyways. Didn't okay the extra charge from me. In fact, I STILL don't know how much more these zippers will cost me. They never told me. You can read for yourself.
At this point, I was more than unhappy with my experience with ZipperStop.com. So, I decided to let them know how unhappy I was in the most polite way I knew how. I let them know I probably wasn't going to return and how unclear the transaction was. I actually let them know that I was in the process of trying to find another company to order from so I could CANCEL my transaction when they said they sent my package. And then I thanked them for sending off the package.
That is when Jeff at ZipperStop.com replied with how they tried to contact me and they ALWAYS answer their emails ASAP (really now? Because I have much proof otherwise).
Then he stated "I know my competition. Please give them a try. I know one thing, you will be back."
It's very, very rare that I get treated with not only this level of unprofessionalism, but this awful customer service treatment. That's exactly when I told them I would most def NOT be returning to their company, and then further more let them know I would let my friends and other websites know about my awful experience so that they could avoid ordering from them.
So, PLEASE cosplayers and other sewers of the world...AVOID using Zipperstop.com. Pay the extra two dollars it will cost you to use another custom order zipper website. In fact, go ahead and just save yourself the trouble all together and use zippers from fabric stores.
And to leave you off..this is the email of my order confirmation. It was sent today, October 12th...almost three weeks after I originally placed my order.
So, safe yourself your time and effort and shop elsewhere.
