Genesis Rhapsodos Sword with Lights

So it took me FOREVER to do this, mostly because of my procrastination, but I've finally completed my Genesis Rhapsodos sword with LED lights. For materials, I used:

Wooden Dowel Rod for the grip
Wooden Block strips for the supports
Red translucent plexiglass
Hobby wire for forming the ornaments and the like
Gorilla Glue
Goop Glue
AVES Epoxy Modeling Putty
Some Marbles for the gems
Spare black faux leather
LED light strip
9V Battery Power Supply

Blade WIP

Almost Done

The only thing left is to remove the excess glue for the most part. My sculpting isn't great so there aren't any perfect shapes, but for the most part I'm happy with it. If I had the tools I would have been a super perfectionist at it though.

Just a suggestion, but have you considered EL wire instead of LEDs? It gives it a smoother glow instead of the multiple LED light glow that the blade is giving off. It's the stuff that they use to make Tron suits and whatnot. Seriously, check it out.

it looks freaking sweeeeet

but, you probably could diffuse the light more. It would be really expensive to switch to EL at this point so I would suggest making a "frosted" vinyl cover than you can just slip on over the blade. You can probably get the vinyl in clear or in red, to make sure the existing glow stays the right color.

Good ideas, I wasn't sure if EL wire wasn't going to be as bright to go through the translucent plexiglass so I opt'd for LED light strips instead. Hm I could look in to a vinyl cover of some sort. Any suggestions on where to go for that kind of thing?

if your going for EL anything
use EL tape

note: EL requires transformer youll have to hide in your costume
as its to big to fit in the sword

Sure about that? The EL Wire I have has a small transformer about the size of the palm of my hand. Doesn't EL Tape also require a transformer? Also, from what I've seen, it doesn't show up so great in light settings.

ya there doesnt seem to be a place thicker than .5"-.75" on the sword
every EL transformer is a bit bigger as far a i know
so to power it maybe via plugging it in to the sword
with the power an transformer someplace one the body

its good to check the the specs on the EL you buy
some of the EL sheet/tape and be cheap
especially the stuff put in T-shirts lol
just be sure to a nice big lumen value
it will also help find the right transformer to light it fully
