help me improve
Ok, so i am not entirely sure if this is the appropriate area for this, but it is a critique of sorts, so bare with me
![]() I have been entering more and more cosplay contest lately hoping to get more out of my costumes than just wandering around the halls of the cons i attend. While it is enjoyable to just hang around in my costume having fun, i want to take it to the next level and try my hand at winning some costume contests. but so far this has not worked out to well for me. So what i want critique on is my cosplays as a whole...preferably the newer costumes, as my old costumes were made with my newbie skills which are never good haha. If i could get a critique on what could be improved on my newer costume in my cos.com profile cosplay list and/or what you like about them already, it would help me greatly to improve. Please be harsh, i want my next costumes to be the best i can make them. If something looks sloppy on a costume tell me what it is so i can be sure not to repeat it.

well. the point of this post was to give me a critique on my overall cosplay work to show me what needs to be improved. That's what i was hoping for at least. pretty much asking people to take a quick browse through my cosplay gallery and tell me what they like or don't like about a few things that pop out at them as a consistent flaw or whatnot in my gallery.

My net is really shitty at the moment, so I can't really open everything up and look at it one at a time, so there's only a couple of things I'll say at the moment.
1. Have a look at how to wear wigs properly (I need to do this too. :P ), as in a few of the thumbnail shots I can see your hairline under the wig. 2. The devil is in the details. Any great cosplay has fine details that could be easily overlooked, but shouldn't be. This comes down to things like making sure you've got makeup that suits the character you're cosplaying, as well as making sure you colour your eyebrows to match the wig you're wearing. Actually, eyebrows are one of the big things that betrays the fact that you're wearing a wig. Cosplay really allows for more dramatic makeup than what would be used in an every-day situation, and it also helps in photographs. From the quick look I had, your fabric choices are pretty decent. Can I ask, the tattoo on your chest I can see with Princess Chibiusa, is that a real tattoo, or part of the costume? I'd definitely suggest getting tattoo concealer if that isn't part of the costume. Soyeh. More dramatic makeup, match your eyebrows to your wig, and I think also work on your posing. |

I hear you with the short hair thing! My hair's the longest it's been in ages, and it's not even hit the base of my neck yet. I put a good whack of hairspray in before putting on the wig cap, holds everything in place and also gives the bobby pins something to hold on to when you're pinning the wig into place.
![]() I don't have much in the way of a suggestion for make up, I'm pretty basic myself. But more around the eyes makes a huge difference when it comes to photos. There are some awesome tutorials on YouTube for enhancing features. I'd link you to some favourites, but with my net the way it is right now, using YouTube is like trying to walk on the ceiling. |

Enhancing features is a great suggestion...i am taking that as...make angles harsher with shadowing for male characters...or do the right kind of shading to make my face look rounds for young female characters. then exaggerate my eyes with color and such for female characters and shade to make my eyes more masculine for male characters....and of course lipstick for females.
