I try to book the hotel, either combination of dates (either 1-3-13 or 1-4-13 to 1-6-13) and invariably, I always get the "Group Rate Not Available For Requested Dates"

Has anyone been able to book using the code or perhaps the room block just isn't open or entered into the computer yet(?)

I had the same problem. Room results come up normally, but when entering the discount code (even if it's only for the days of the con), the website returns an error message and says there's nothing available under that code.

I doubt that because there's only a thousand or so registered to date, when I go to membership lookup it says:

Anime Los Angeles (2013), 1039 members as of 30-Oct-2012

In the past I think they've just had to tell the hotel to allocate more rooms to the block, or something like that.

I have the same problem! ALA's website even says "The Animé Los Angeles room block closes on or about December 20, 2012". I even sent an email to them and have yet to get any response.

I also sent an email to them, so hopefully this gets resolved soon. There's still plenty of time, at least, so I'm not too worried. In the past, they've added more rooms to the con block when things started to fill before the deadline (if this is the problem).

I ran into this same issue a little over a week ago booking my group's room. In my case, it looked like it was a minor site glitch, as I was able to go through with the booking process after waiting for a couple of hours.

same problem.... at first i was like "oh well ill just pay the reg price..." then it was 10 dollors more for pool view.. .and i was like FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF so lets hope we could fix this or get more rooms

FYI, I was able to make a Marriott reservation at the con rate, literally just a few moments ago. I don't know what changed behind the scenes and I never got an email reply from ALA staff, but I'm booked!

Yeah looks like they've added more rooms to the block.
BTW don't wait till the last minute. If I remember correctly, last year the hotel filled up about 10 days before.

This is the standard kind of deal where they take your credit card number but don't actually charge you anything until you check in, right?
(Because I'm pretty darn broke right now, though I won't be in January.)
