How to Cosplay Properly?

I've been cosplaying since I was a kid, but most of them seem thrown together. To be fair, everyone has to start somewhere don't they? :3 However, my next con isn't until May, but I'd really like to plan ahead so I can get this right. Right now I'm looking at 3 possible cosplays. One is a redo I want to do, and the other two are from the anime Betrayal Knows my Name (huge fangirl, I know T_T) I'd like to do Toko Murasame and Senshiro Furuori. They aren't that hard at all, but I'm wondering if I should include their weapons even though they aren't in fighting outfits. So I would REALLY like some advice on how to get a decent cosplay done. I feel bad for being 17 and haven't had a decent cosplay yet ^^" So here are the characters, and I'd REALLY appreciate the help! And prop sword help would also be appreciated ^^" Aaaaaand I found a Luka cosplay AFTER I tried to make one -.-" Well it'll make my redo easier ^^"

This is the Toko cosplay I'm looking at http://www.****This Website Link Has Been Removed due to Recent Forum Spam****.com/product/Tok...nows+My+Nam e

It's okay that your first cosplay(s) were thrown together. Mine was, too! The female character is harder to coslay than the male. His outfit can be thrifted, but make sure to buy men's clothing.
Her outfit might be available on the mass market (cosplay sites, eBay, etc.) Otherwise you would have to make/thrift it, or get it commissioned.
His weapon will be tricky though. You'll have better luck posting in the appropriate forum (props), where more knowledgable people can help you out with materials and techniques.

If you want to "improve" your cosplays, pay attention to details. Things like wigs, shoes, accessories, and makeup can vastly improve an average cosplay to look polished and complete.

That's all I've got for now. Best of luck!
