Homestuck Roxy's A6A4 dress help, please?

Hello guys!
I've been having trouble figuring out what the hem of Roxy's dress from the recent update is supposed to be made out of or how to make it.
References are here and here.

I really don't know how to get that multicoloured kind of frayed look. :/
I've heard somewhere that it's beading, but I don't really know anything about that and it also seems rather expensive - but I would be open to trying it out anyhow.

I already own a base dress that I have to shorten, so it's pretty much about adding that special hem to it.

Anyone have any ideas or advice? They would be greatly apreciated! :3

(And would this have been better off in a different part of the forums? If so, sorry.^^°)

Considering Roxy has this whole 'cat lover' thing going on, I was kind of thinking that the hem was just draped yarn rather than beading.

...if that helps at all.

Thanks, I guess that would suit her personality along with being way easier, so I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I was thinking along the same line, although with something like hoodie cord material, or thin strips of tee shirt material. Or make piping out of nicer material, like satin ribbon. I would use chain rather than cord for that, so it drapes differently.

Ah, those are good ideas as well, I may go for the strips of T-shirt material, since I'd have some material from the base dress left over.
I doubt I'd find cord in the matching colours though, and I don't think I'd be so great at making satin piping. >_<

But thanks a lot!
