He's persistent because your friend isn't being honest.

Your coworker is not being forthcoming with what they want and thus the guy is not going to understand 'no' if Coworker just keeps beating around the bush and leaving their answer open-ended.

Keep in mind I am not saying this individual hasn't crossed his boundaries with being overly persistent. But if Coworker acts as if they're interested BUT -something- then how is the guy going to know any differently?

Yeah, you don't say "Yes" when you're really thinking "no". That coworker is an airhead, she agreed because she didn't want to deal with refusing --- it has absolutely nothing to do with "Not being mean" and using stupid excuses like "We can't date customers" is also being an idiot and skirting around the fact that she needed to refuse when he first asked her. It's only going to be more troublesome as this circus goes on.

Honesty really is the best policy.

I understand Coworker might feel a personal obligation and fear for repercussions at work but it's important to grow a 'polite spine' and put your foot down. No means no. If Coworker is not interest then they say so, politely but firmly. 'No' is not a bad thing. It doesn't make you a 'bitch' or rude. 'No' is setting boundaries that Coworker needs to set with this person.

Lol, funny enough I also learned most of my kanji by having it associated with a picture. Nothing that funny, though. Things like "a man spreads out his arms and legs when he wants to look BIG".

I wasn't there Monday when this all went down, but I don't think she should have given her phone number, or should have said she has a boyfriend. It is making things at work interesting though...Even my manager is having fun with this. Going to be awkward when this customer comes in...

Funny enough, Boyfriends English handwriting is AWFUL but his Japanese handwriting looks immaculate.
