Making a lolita inspired Alice dress
Hello,
How would I go about turning an Alice in Wonderland (from Disney) dress into a lolita or lolita inspired dress? (I will be sewing my own dress) I know about petticoats and the basics of lolita, but I want my Alice dress to look lolita. I will have black lolita shoes and a nice poofy petticoat. Alice from the Disney movie: ![]() Here is an example of what I think would look like an Alice lolita dress. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (just the apron lolita-fied) Are those pretty close to lolita inspired? Would I just simply add ruffles and lace to the original design to make it more lolita? I really want to make this dress look as authentic to lolita as possible. I would appreciate any pictures or links to Alice lolita dresses! Thanks so much! Last edited by oreobunbun : 11-20-2012 at 03:25 PM. |

Close, but unless you want ero-loli be sure that the skirt goes all of the way to your knees (touching the top or middlish. Technically you can go even longer.) The dress from HonestDragonChina has too much lace in my opinion. The dress above that one is much better.
This is a great place to learn more, and the forum there is where I learned the most about Lolita: http://www.lolitafashion.org/Also, don't forget to wear a petticoat with this. I wear an organza one from Qutieland. |

I actually think that the HonestDragonChina one looks more lolita, though sadly the pictures are actually stolen from Angelic Pretty. Silly e-bay sellers. Alice themed sets used to be really popular back in the day, and brands still do release them from time to time so there's quite a bit to look at for inspiration. Here's a bunch of stuff:
http://lolibrary.org/node/15305 http://lolibrary.org/node/15445 http://lolibrary.org/node/13724 http://lolibrary.org/node/13178 http://lolibrary.org/node/12941 http://lolibrary.org/node/12440 http://lolibrary.org/node/2928 http://lolibrary.org/node/3163 http://lolibrary.org/node/8756 http://lolibrary.org/node/7333 http://lolibrary.org/node/7180 http://lolibrary.org/node/6600 http://lolibrary.org/node/127 http://makelovely.files.wordpress.co.../metaalice.jpg Essentially they are just a bunch of lace and ruffles added to the original design, but there's also a lot of nice little details on these like heart-shaped apron tops, pockets or designs on the apron skirts, buttons in themed shapes, etc. I think it's a pretty flexible idea, but details are really important in this sort of outfit. I hope that's helpful!

I did not know that Alice themed was really popular. I knew that some dresses existed, but I didn't realize that the community was in love with it at one point! The links were extremely helpful. I noticed that some dresses are more plain than others, but I can see how they get the idea of Lolita fashion across (from plain to elaborate). I really like the pintucks, heart shaped aprons and buttons and the idea of lace around the pockets. I'm glad to know that I can add lace, I just need to make sure it doesn't look like a lace monster threw up on my dress! Again, thank you so much for taking the time to find examples for me! I really appreciate it! (thanks to you, I now know of a new site to find more pictures of dresses) |

I actually grew up with an Alice outfit like this. My grandparents insisted that I dress to suit my name. I need to find or make another.
