A t-shirt vs. a different material? :/

I'm needing to make the shirt for my M'gann M'orzz cosplay, but I'm really debating what type of shirt I need to use to make it. Her shirt basically a t-shirt as far as the shape, so that's not my problem. What I'm wondering is...what "type" of shirt should I make it out of? She's got the whole "superhero costume", which is shouts "spandex", although I'm not terribly skinny, so I'm worried that even with the cape, I'll end up looking exceptionally "too big for this costume." I considered using an underarmour type shirt (where it's that slick material but it's not 100% spandex), or just using a t-shirt and taking a bit out of the back (since I'm going to be wearing a cape anyway.) But what do you guys think I should use? :/

To be honest, you'll have the same issue with underarmour as you will with spandex. They're both super figure hugging.

What are you using to make the skirt? I'd be inclined to use the same material.
Tshirting would also work fine, especially if you can find a cotton one with a good thickness.
Can I ask, why would you take out a bit in the back? To make it more fitted? If so, you should just reshape the side seams.

Use a regular ladies tee shirt. I see no reason to need to alter one as ladies fitted tees are readily available plenty cheap at places like Walmart, I have tons.
As to the figure issues: learn from Stacy & Clinton (TLC's What Not to Wear- GREAT advice)

- wear the right undergarments, in this case a slimmer of some sort would probably work nicely.
- wear clothes that FIT, not squeeze. If you don't know how clothes should look on your body when they fit properly... well you are about in with 63% of Americans, most people have no clue what proper fit is. It's not something I can explain via text, I'd need to see you in clothes to explain what's right & what needs adjusting. I can do that via PM if you'd like.

Especially if you have more curve than the character you are playing, wearing something that looks good on you will read much better than something that fits like it was painted on (like the character being played) which results in making you look terrible. It's a fine balance.
