Omg! i've been searching for a sturdy PVC clear sheet or a clear plastic material that is sturdy for a long time and i cant seem to find one! Can some one help me?
I'm trying to make this eye prop

thanks, i'm planning to make a half piece of this prop, i was wondering if 18 in. x 24 in. x .093 in. Acrylic Sheet would work best for ear support and the screen itself?

it can be hard to cut a comfortable ear shape
id transition into EVA foam to mount it to your ear
if all you need is about 1.5"x 10" bit
you should see if its cheaper at a hobby shop
if you were near me id just give you some scarp of that size
i picked up over 100lb. of scrap for a out $10 from a sign and a trophy shop

I was thinking of mounting on a mic headset, make a rectangular piece, glue it to the screen and boom done xP

At work, I buy plastics (and hardware and pretty much any kind of raw material) from McMaster Carr.. Really easy to navigate and they have tons of stuff. Not always the cheapest, and it's hard to link to individual products, but if you go to McMaster.com and search for part number 1227T129 you'll find 1.5" wide by 1/8" thick clear acrylic for $1.10 per foot..

If you want to search around for other acrylic, start here... They have a lot of stuff though, don't get overwhelmed!

Also, as another bonus, they usually ship long skinny stuff in nice cardboard tubes that you could probably use in cosplay construction...

If you have a big hardware store local, you can also get it in person.

We bought this for my wife's Barbarella costume:

Still have a lot left over, need to figure out some other projects to use it.

how many sheets do you recommend me buying? 2 or 5?

Well if you're just doing the front visor part, 1 piece would be plenty.. but buy extra to experiment with. And to save on shipping as well.

I'm sure you could also find stuff locally, if you live anywhere near a home depot or lowes or Ace or other big hardware store..

You can get an acrilic welding mask clear sheild.... easly avalible at most car parts stores...or metal workshop.. costs about 3$.for a 2.5 inch by 5 or about 4 by 6 inch for 6$

Does heat knife cut through very well?

Probably not. To "cut" acrylic, you'll score it on one side using a scoring tool and a straightedge, then snap it in two along the scored line.

There are special scoring tools you can use for this - they're only a couple bucks - but if you don't get one of those, you might be able to use something else that's got a thin, sharp corner. Maybe the corner of a metal putty knife, or a small flat-head screwdriver. If you're doing more than just this one little rectangle, the scoring tool is a must.

hot knife is a no
for work by hand i use a dove tail saw
it has a vary low profile for a saw
so its easier in this type of cut
