I wonder who actually follows the ESRB ratings.... or ratings on anything, for the matter.

Also, this is kind of a peeve, but I hate it when a bookstore won't let me buy a manga just because it's rated 16+. I mean, I'm 16 now, but it used to be such a pain, because then I'd have to buy it online instead. I know they're just doing their job...but still, it's an inconvenience.

I used to work at a bookstore. Let me tell you this, the person who's going to be in trouble if your parents or an adult find out you where sold an 'adult' manga? ME. Not you. if it's got a 'rating' of any sort that identifies it as being sexual and I sell it to an underage child it's me who's going to get in a lot of trouble because that could be considered selling you pornography.

It might be annoying that you can't buy your favorite manga because of one or two scenes but it's annoying for me because I am being asked to ignore the law and put my job at risk.

Good point. Oh, I should say I wasn't trying to imply it's the employees fault (sorry if it came off that way). Whenever that issue arose, I'd just put it back (some stores would ask my age while others wouldn't). XD I was more or less just making a remark that although there's good reasons behind it, it's still a nuisance for people, especially when it's all for none when the person goes to buy it online ultimately.

Uh, pretty much all retailers. Apparently it is easier for kids to buy R-rated DVDs at places like Target and Walmart than to buy M-rated games. As a parent, I followed ratings in the sense that if my kids wanted to see a PG-13 movie (or later, an R-rated movie) I always checked it out first to decide if it was o.k. It never really came up with games though because they weren't interested in M-rated stuff.

That was always how my mom did it when I was younger.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. My parents more or less ignored the ratings of games and movies, and determined if they were okay with me by content (after all, how on earth did SSB Melee get a T rating?). Really? I didn't know the factoid about movies and games. I thought it would have been the other way around if there was any difference.

Yeah, if someone asks for an idea because of age limit, I'll just put the item back. XD It's not worth giving the employee and attitude just because they're doing their job (and in most cases I could just have easily bought it online, but I pick it up there because I'm already there to get something else). Overall, I think it's more or less the parent who decides what's okay for their kid in most cases.
