Make up for Males?

Hi everyone,

I am currently dealing with a question that crossed my mind yesterday evening.

When it comes to male characters cosplayed by a male person, what is your opinion on makeup?
Is it inevitable anyway or do you think, males could pull it of anyway, no matter if they show a five o'clock shadow or not.

IMO, everyone looks better with makeup. That's why so many Hollywood men look great on red carpets: they're wearing makeup. But it's an option, as everything in this hobby is.

There are methods for counteracting five o'clock shadow using red or orange/pink correctors (or even lipstick).

Well, I think make-up is required for both genders to look their best when it comes to cosplay.. and this comes from a transguy so in a way I can understand why some males would hesitate using make-up or even skip it all together.. heck, I did at first too.. before I noticed what a world of difference even a little amount does. At least use something to even out your skin tone (and hide flaws) and if the character is more of a pretty boy then some dark brown eyeliner does wonders.

Okay, that's a quite distinct opinion both of you share.
So next time I do a male person (which will be Inuyasha as far as I know), i will use some make up to cover flaws....

no, I will struggle to make my wife to it

As a photographer I'd say : with makeup on, you'll look ten times better on pictures.
Okay, processing can help, but not all photogs bother, especially for con photos.

The hell you will. Put on your own damn makeup and like it. It's not as though you're going to get cooties. Your wife has enough to do already.

Anybody hoping to look good in front of a camera needs makeup. Full stop.
Workin' on:
Tom Petty [Final Fantasy XV] (9%)
Bondage Finch [Bondage Finch Adventures] (12%)
Your Mother [Debbie Does Dallas XXIII] (8%)

Actually, male makeup is becoming quite common even in the day-to-day. There are now lines of makeup, and other beauty products, that are marketed just to men.
Good, Cheap, or Fast
Pick any two...

If its Good and Cheap, it wont be Fast
If its Fast and Cheap, it wont be Good
If its Fast and Good it wont be Cheap

People, no matter the gender, look better in pictures with makeup. Without makeup, a lot of people have shiny red faces, which completely ruins an otherwise good costume.

So ask your wife how to do it and learn to get pretty, sir.

There are lots of make up tutorials for men on youtube too. I don't know how good any of them are, only did a quick search, but I'm sure you'll find a look you like - and if it's just on how to apply foundation.
