Second opinion on Kirito's Dark Repulor

I've got everything planned out and currently hardening the sword right now.

But at the moment I can't really make heads or tails of the handle of the blade. I get the circle bits at the guard and bottom. But what I don't understand is the color differences just above the bottom if you get what I mean.

Looking at it, I'm not sure if it's protruding out, concave in, or they are leveled and I just need to paint it as such.

Here is a reference: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=dark+...1 158&bih=569

Any help is appreciated and thank you for your time.

The bar that goes up from the base of the hilt just after the pommel appears to be a recessed spot. Since it is the same color as the rest of the blade, I interpret that to mean that the dark green portion of the hilt & pommel is some sort of comfy-grip material, such as leather, and there's just a portion of the grip material removed where the bare metal is exposed.

I'm more confused by that decoration where the pommel meets the hilt.

It looks concave.

But I'm not sure if it's some sort of kanji or perhaps a symbol of some sort.

This is something I don't want to mess up as I'm commissioning this.

Are you speaking of the very very butt of the handle? The area that's like a sphearish look?
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...6/IMAG0494.jpg
This is my template. I found the clearest most amazing picture on tumblr and saved it to my phone and zoomed in to get what it looks like. And it looked to be more painted on then anything..It didn;t seem to indent into it nor did it seem to rise either. But this is the pattern for both sides.. If you need anything else on what it looks like, I have the entire sword drawn onto a template

EDIT:
OH!! and you see where the hendle meets the spherish thing? how the pattern of that artsy thing flows to each side? That part wraps around the base of the handle.

For something like this where there is not enough evidence to make a confident decision I'd say leave it up to the client's interpretation, after all, that's who you need to please.

Just to throw another take into the mix however, I agree with Verdatum's interpretation. Even if it wasn't the original intent of the artist to have those areas recessed, I think it would be a nice bit of detail to help balance the visual weight considering how ornate the blade and cross-guard are compared to what would otherwise be a pretty basic hilt and pommel.

@ JasonTerror - Are you sure that's what the design is ?

@ 2DLogic - Good point and thank you for your opinion.

Yes I'm sure. It's a little odd cuz I went over the pencil with a sharpie so it's hard to tell but yes it is.
This is the pic I used (doing a long search right now):

I guess I forgot the very bottom part..(would be the top on my cutout..)
I went off this exact picture for mine

Thanks Jason!

This picture really helps. It gives me the exact details I need. But it also means that I have to rebuild the sword from scratch lol. I built mine too fat.

Luckily I saved the PDO for it. I just need to rescale it, print, and put it back together.

No problem. You said in the first one that the sword was hardening..What are you using? I will eventually be doing the dualblade cosplay and would like to make them but have NO idea what to use (I can't use wood, and foam is too thick).

Yeam it's a pretty thin sword..That's how he wanted it though..Able to move as quick as he can swing it lol Honestly though, I would rather it be thicker a bit..Makes it do it won't snap on you..

Actually I'm using several things. Wood as the core, pepakura for the skeleton design, then fiberglass resin to harden it.

Funny enough I already figured out the solution to that and can still use wood. I'm still using a wooden dowel as the handle. But then I'm also using those millimeter thick pieces of wood as I'll be carving out a small section to slide it into the dowel to which I'll then slide the pepakura model over it and harden it from there.

Of course it all works in theory assuming my measurements are right.

Sounds promising! You should post pics on this thread when you finish (or any interesting intermediate phases)

Jason, you can thin foam to any thickness needed by locking the foam against a block of scrap wood the thickness you want, and sawing squarely along it with a long carving knife from the kitchen. Well, that or you can buy an electric jointer; but if you can justify that expense, I'm jealous

Midnight Dawn, Sounds good. I don't know anything about any of those....Oh well for me..lol I was hoping it might be a way I could do so I could make mine..But eh..

verdatum, Do you have, or know where I can fine, a diagram of how you mean? Also, I DON'T have scrap wood the thickness I need..Or any for that matter lol So I guess either way that's outts the question..Plus..I have 1" thick foam and it's WAY fragile..Any thinner would be a terrible idea..That thing would snap just picking it up lol
