It is such a fucking good game.
I've bought a yellow & white baseball jacket and i'm looking at rubber animal masks. I'm thinking unicorn. Then a bit a of blood, a baseball bat, a shotgun...

I've had the same jar of foundation for 5 years and I'm just now getting to the last bits of it. And that's cuz I don't wear it everyday.
I never said I had the income to afford it all the time. I don't have a job and my husband works 2 jobs to be able to support us. I get a bit of money every week from my parents to help out with things like groceries so things like big shopping trips to the mall are a special occurrence for us.

I am in a pretty similar boat to you. Boyfriend works, I try to make money however I can-mostly with selling my artwork the best I can manage. My parents contribute some help to us as part of what they both decided was what they wanted to do for us, and it is cool and all that if you chose to spend your money on something you see is personally worth while-but not all of us will see it as such for our individual circumstances.
We have to keep in mind that others may not value the same things we do or be in the same positions we are in. To you investing in $30 of makeup might be worth it, but for others like myself that simply isn't in the question.

Why complain about the makeup aisle in wal mart when you can rail against the fact that women seem to think they need makeup? /various feminist inspired battle cries here

We should absolutely be discussing the beauty industry and it's extremely harmful tactics, but part of that discussion should include the effects of selling white beauty to women of color and the complete white-washing of the beauty industry. If you chose not to participate in 'makeup stuff' that's perfectly fine, but it's unfair to alienate those of us who do. We can participate and enjoy makeup without being some kind of mindless consumer sheep.

Also- and this is still not meant to be a retort to DireKitty at all, but rather just an observation of the people in my life at this time- why is it that there are people who think they have more confidence and are better than those who like to wear makeup? I have a couple of friends who fall into that category, and it's quite annoying. =3= I rarely wear makeup to begin with, but sometimes I just feel like wearing makeup. XD Not only is it a means to express oneself, but it can also be something to express effort in appearance, not a shallow lack of confidence as some people like to make it out to be (which it can be for a small handful of people, but not for every person who wants to wear makeup). It's like when someone wears a dress/skirt/formal pants to a dinner party, rather than their oldest pair of jeans. At least, this is just how I perceive why I wear makeup. XD For all I know this doesn't apply to others.

This is not directed at Kitty either, just a response to you Fishy:
We're always comparing ourselves to others in order to lift our status; either with others or in our own mind. When we make someone else the 'other' to us it's easy to make them 'wrong'. It becomes more difficult for us to accept that people may make choices we do not and it isn't wrong for them to do so. Women without makeup are no better or worse than women with makeup and visa-verse.

I believe it's American Eagle who requires their employees to have a particular look from weight to personal style and employees are hired or fired depending on literally how attractive they are. One woman I spoke with online some time ago was discussing how she was hired in as the heaviest employee at her store and after losing a significant amount of weight from surgery she was praised for dropping a drastic amount of weight in a very short time. When she naturally put the weight back on from returning to her regular diet the store fired her for being fat.

In regards to your previous post, I agree. I suppose it is just human nature to go that route.

It's not right though. I wish I could just take every girl in the world and tell them to protest these companies.

Back in the 50's I know that was the case with flight attendants. You needed perfectly coiffed hair, girdles, silk stockings, the standard uncomfortable dressy suit and high heeled shoes, and red lipstick to do your job. And once you married or turned 30, you were fired.
Also, I had a job interview with one small downtown boutique who was also very looks and weight-based when hiring. They sold European clothes at ridiculously inflated prices, so they only went as high as a 12 US for sizes, and it was a requirement stated in my interview to wear makeup, dressy shoes and store products at work and the employee discount was almost nonexistent (HA! FORTY BUCKS for a simple tank top and $200 for a pair of high heels? FUCK NO. I NEED MY MONEY TO LIVE ON, NOT SPEND IN ONE PURCHASE EVERY WEEK). Even if I had gotten the job, like hell I would've stayed. My job at an Asian-owned jewellery kiosk did involve them hiring smaller people, too, but that was a practical and not aesthetic reason- there wasn't much space to maneuver in the kiosk and you couldn't be too big, or quite simply, you weren't gonna fit into your workplace, espcially with all the bending and crouching you'd be doing each shift (there was something like two and a half feet of clearance at most from case to central stand on three of the four sides. I wore a size 11/12 then and usually didn't have more than a few inches with my arm at my sides if I was walking straight through).
