What dyeing technique
So I'm not terribly familiar with dyeing techniques and wanted to ask what I would do for this outfit: http://images5.fanpop.com/image/phot...-1667-1063.jpg
I was originally thinking gradient dyeing but after looking at it that doesn't seem appropriate. I was also trying to figure out when to dye the fabric, I would assume before sewing the actually kimono together but wanted to confirm. The art, and others, make it look lined is that normal? As a side note is there an official name for this variant? And what would that kind of pipe be called?

I would not gradient this. With the way the pattern/circles are on the sleeves I would either paint on the design or maybe use wax colored on the fabric as the pattern, I think that would keep the dye off those parts. But I'm 100% sure on that one.

You might want to look into the Batik Wax technique. http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/en...v=resists.html
Basically you use the wax to block off the areas that you don't want dyed, dye it, let it dry, and then peel/chip off the wax. Example: http://fav.me/d4qvakj If Enkai sees this she can better explain it. But it's a great way to get that particular pattern while using the same shade of dye and not worry about color matching with paint.

Also, since the outfit is layers would it be a solid white kimono with a dyed haori (or hapi whichever is correct) over it? I'm trying to look into patterns.
