My dad made black bear chili for dinner tonight.
Black.
Bear.
Chili.
His friend obtained a bear hunting permit, shot himself a big ol' black bear, and gave us some meat. We use the meat to make black bear chili, and my dad's recipe includes a full bottle of beer added to the pot.
So good.
Also, there's Jack Daniels pulled pork sitting in my fridge unopened right now and I want it so bad.
I think I'm going to go make some instant mashed potatoes and stir in some light ranch for flavour.

I want to eat this post.

PD and I had rabbit and goose for Christmas dinner, as did Little Dude. Both meats were scrumdiddleyumptious. Filet mignon for New Year's Eve.

I've heard black bear's tasty, but not grizzly bear. Never had it, myself. All the hunters in my family hunt deer/moose or ducks.

Black bear is indeed very tasty. It's also very mild, it gives off even less odor while cooking than ground beef or ground turkey.

NYE's overly ambitious menu for two adults and a toddler:

Brie en croute with apple and cranberry
Marinated olives
Filets mignon with green peppercorn-brandy sauce
Scalloped potatoes
Roasted broccoli
Lemon cakes
Pomegranate and ginger sparkling cider

I'm basically going to be cooking right up until midnight. There are worse ways to ring in the new year, I guess.

Scarfing down Mom's signature party dishes; salmon pate and rice crackers, and a spinach dip with pumpernickel bread. Pate is canned salmon with seafood sauce and a shitton of cream cheese. The dip is water chestnuts, onion, sour cream, spinach, knorr dry vegetable soup mix and mayo, put in a hollowed out round pumpernickel loaf. Effing delicious.

I've just discovered the joys of ginger wine.

Now I'll have to try and make some...

I totally forgot people eat special things for this holiday. I made baked chicken breasts and a salad. I'll just have to drink heavily to make up for it.

My parents don't let me cook very often, and I don't even know why. I made veggie lasagna for dinner tonight and I told them I put chicken in it (as I'm a vegetarian and they're not.) They LOVED it. After they ate it, I was like "LOL THAT WAS TOFU GUYS" and they got mad. Until I made cookies, that is. I make like, the best shortbread ever.

Would you laugh if they lied to you and put meat in your food? I'm guessing not.

The difference is that they're not "opposed" to eating tofu, and they liked it anyway. A little harsh, there, dude.
