Pinkie Pie Dress Help

Ok so first off I am trying to make Pinkie Pies Gala Dress, I can't draw very well so this artist's design is the closest to what I'm trying to create:

I want to make my dress so that its open in the front but long on the sides and back, like this (forgive the crappy paint drawing):

I have this pattern for the top of the dress and inner skirt:

I'm using the alice dress.

My question is how do I do the longer skirt? Like what pattern would be a good pattern to use for it? Is this even possible? If its not please suggestions on what to do. And how would I make it so the outer skirt would poof out, will I need a petticoat? Do they sell a petticoat that will work for this type dress or will I need to make one?

Any help would be great please!

Pinkie Pie is wearing a petticoat, hence the poof.

For the long skirt, unless I'm terribly mistaken and someone can correct me, it looks like a partial circle skirt. You may be able to use newspaper to draft the pattern using the tutorials available online, and tape the pieces together. Have someone help hold the pattern around your low waist to make sure it fits correctly. Wear the proper shoes, too, to check the length. Hopefully this is correct...
Otherwise you could add a slit to a full length a-line skirt, and add a zipper along the side or back seam. Good luck!

Ok so do you think using this pattern could work for the longer skirt if I just leave out the middle section of it? -

I ask because I already own this pattern as I made my daughter of evil rin dress with it. Or do you think it will look not right and I should try drafting something instead? Also do you know if they sell a petticoat that is shorter in the front or do you think I will have to buy a full one and cut it?

I think that would be fine. But also I think a circle skirt would work fine. Just make a half circle skirt with a too large waist hole and it should work. (:

Ok thanks very much for the help ^.^ I've started on making the blue and white striped fabric for the top so hopefully this will turn out awesome!

You also can get short petticoats, to answer that part of your question. Lolita petticoats might be a good place to start that search.

If all else fails, you can always get a pattern for a petticoat and make your own, or buy a tutu/something else fluffy and try to help bring up the poofiness.

Best of luck!
