Coffin Wings

My older brother and I are working on his Persona 4 Thanatos cosplay and we're a little stumped on how to accomplish making his "coffin wings". Does anyone have any ideas whatsoever?

I'm not sure about the frame to hold them up, but foam core is very lights weight and easy to use.

Styrofoam and cardboard.

I saw someone do this cosplay and they made a wood rigging for the wing but the wings were made of foamboard.

I've thought about using foamboard. How would we make the wings attach to his cosplay?

Foamcore will definitely benefit you the most with these since it'll be lighter than doing it would wood and less likely to hurt your bother's back as he walks around the convention. For attaching, I'd go with using pvc pipping since it'll have the thickness and the harness that goes around the chest will be able to help.

You could always use dowel rods. If you get them in poplar or something, it's very light weight. Then all you need is a harness

Foamcore for the coffins themselves, definitely. As for the support, wood is definitely a good choice if you can find a type light enough. To get the angles you want, perhaps try PVC connectors?

If I were to do it I would use insulation foam for the coffins, and connect them together and attach it to a back brace with pvc pipe. There are lots of examples of back braces/harnesses so you'd have to look around and find a type that works for your brother. I'm not too sure how thick you would want the coffins, but using foam core or insulation foam you could use spray foam to create a type of sandwich to lessen the weight but still allow for a thicker coffin. And also, I would use pvc for a few reasons; easy to curve, it's light weight, and with pre–made connectors it makes traveling to cons and assembling cosplays easy.
