I dont think it's odd. I've never been to the Katsucon ball, but on Fridays at Anime USA, I have been going as Avatar Kyoshi so that I'll be dressed for the ball (it's too much trouble to change back and forth when your makeup takes about an hour to put on).

I wish I had the time to create a really nice cosplay dress or formal outfit for the ball. Sadly I am working on my art and that has completely taken over my LIFE.

I am also interested in information. I keep checking the website but I haven't seen anything. What about people who have gone before and their experiences? This is my first year, so what have you thought before about this ball?

Hey guys! I'm the head of the formal ball. I didn't have a chance to go through this whole thread, but there will indeed be a formal ball friday night at Katsucon. The information should be going up on the website any time now and I will check into it to see why it hasn't been posted.

Only if you feel comfortable! ^_^ I've never been to any of the formal balls at cons but I hear they're normally very fun!

It says you can wear Zori or Geta(wooden sandals that look like flip flops), but you have to be wearing kimono with them or other formal japanese wear.

Dance lessons, taught by Diana Hong, to be held prior to the ball. Come a few minutes early to meet up with other attendees and secure a dance partner! Please refer to the program schedule for time and location.

Well, I promised myself that I'd step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Looks like the opportunity presented itself. Adding this to my list of things to do at Katsucon. XD

I guess I can bring out Timber (Kuroshitsuji) for this since it fits the dress code. That or just come in a black suit and tie. Don't know yet.

Those aren't considered sandals so you will be fine.
