No bother! If you can't get it to sit right you could move it to the place you want it exactly then use little amounts of glue to keep it in the way you want it. I have considered doing it with m bits although I just realised those bits shouldn't be on a Super Sailor Venus cosplay. Oh well. They look better than what they should look like...

With almost 3 years of planning and making/sewing, I've almost finished my Myu Eternal Moon cosplay! I've just got to sew the skirts onto the bodice and hem/sew in the horse braid and trim. After that it's the dreaded wings!!!!
I have 2 questions about this cosplay, 1- how do you go about attaching the wings to the bodice? 2- why are so many of you using Lycra for the skirts? You all seem very worried about the weight of them all and they will effect the bodice. I used tissue lame for my sleeves and skirts which is much lighter and (to me) seem more accurate. |

1. I actually ended up doing a wing frame so I can take it all apart; the wire attaches in the back and is not part of the bodice.
2. Because I believe it is actually tricot lame they used and I could not find any I liked. Because as I studied more it really felt like they doubled over at the hem so there was fabric on the underside. However, I couldn't find a good weight tricot lame. Actually lycra while heavy works well and is supported well by the horsehair braid. |

^ The material is all about which version you look at at and what resources you read...
As for the wings - do you have a pic? I have to work out a way to get to and from the con in this cosplay because the venue doesn't have changing rooms (or very sanitary toilets that I could change in). |

I agree! I apologize if I made it sound like I had the end all be all answer on it, 'cause all we have is our best guesses. :) Obviously the outfits are supposed to be made of lame, after all, that's what it says in the PGSM theme song "hitomi wa itsumo JEWEL/bodi ni matou LAME AND CHARM" ;)
What I meant to say is I did look at tissue lame and didn't find any that I thought matched well enough, and the tricot lame wasn't satisfactory enough either as it was too thin for what I was going for, so I ended up going with Lycra because I loved the color and look of the fabric. :) Looking at pictures like this (http://www.animevice.com/serena-tsuk...a33/83-401059/) and seeing the seam line on the gold, I started thinking there was a double layer of lame on the bottom (i.e. that the "hem" was larger than I thought initially, because the undersides of the skirt are the same color as the outside as far as I could see. Tricot lame, at least what I found, had a white underside, and I didn't want to spend the extra yardage, so I just went with lycra which is colored nicely enough underneath. :p Wings: - http://imageshack.us/scaled/thumb/854/photo3glv.jpg -- you can see the frame of the wings here. Multiple twists of a heavy wire, I wish I could have used heavier wire still but even this required my husband to help me bend the wire! You can kind of see the loop in the middle which I stuffed down the back of my leotard. - http://imageshack.us/scaled/thumb/18/photo2jo.jpg - http://imageshack.us/scaled/thumb/707/photo1sgd.jpg - http://imageshack.us/scaled/thumb/94/photo4wzc.jpg -- Excuse the derpiness but you can see how it works here with the costume mostly put together ;) I need to attach ribbons to the back at the waist though, because the wings need an attachment at the waist otherwise they flop around. EDIT: Apparently those are all tiny useless thumbnails, so the pics are all here in this album: http://imageshack.us/g/854/photo3glv.jpg/ Last edited by Prissi : 01-15-2013 at 02:59 AM. |

Fair enough - that's why I liked the tissue lame because it was light and the same colour on both sides. I'll see if I can find any WIP pics of my Myu! Eternal Moon - I'm at work but I know I have some on my photobucket and facebook...

It all looks wonderful!!! The three years of planning and work definitely show! I'm still working on mine too
Any tips on modeling with clay? I have such a hard time with that for the moons and feathers. :/Tarina, best of luck with all the sewing! Lots of 50% off coupons at Joann's this week ![]() |

I used foil spandex, and lots of it. It hasn't affected or stretched out the bodice at all. Quote:
![]() I made the back bow detachable so they could fold.

Oh yeah I realized I never gave details about how I constructed my wings besides the heavy wire part. I then used hot glue and felt to cover both sides and multiple feather boas as well as individual feathers to craft the wings. The back is covered in holographic spandex that was fused to felt. The wings fold in half but I do store them laid flat under my bed but could easily be folded up for travel.

Oh my god, tricot lame. I drove myself NUTS during my Myu Saturn refurbishing trying to find black tricot lame for her bows and glove bands, since the tissue lame I was using for both was fraying horribly on the glove bands. I ended up still using the tissue lame bows, since thankfully the fraying on them isn't a problem at all, and using metallic spandex for the new glove bands.
To this day I rant about tricot lame whenever it's brought up. XD If I ever came across black tricot lame though, I'd pick up quite a bit of it for the event of a future refurbishing. The anal-retentive side of me is actually starting to get tempted to rip out the silver skirt trim (again) and hand-sew a fresh batch on since at one point the ribbon portion of the trim tore. I have to continually pull the thing out once in a while and reassure myself the costume is still very sound structurally, since it was originally built in 2006 (refurbished from the ground up in 2008). HareyuNanami, why not post a photo of what you're struggling with? I'm sure someone here with experience in Princess Serenity could help!

WOW, thank you Prissi! I've definitely got that site bookmarked, that'll be amazing for the day I need to replace my bows!
The magpie in me is drooling over the second site, so much shiny fabric everywhere. XD I do need to eventually sample fabric for Princess Saturn and Super Saturn's shoulder guards.

Not sure if anyone in here is currently working on Venus or Sailor V, but I found this shoe style that would be perfect for her. The only thing is I think the colors are off - it comes in red, black and brown so they'd have to be painted to be accurate. (For some reason I feel like I've seen red shoes for Venus before but I can't remember where. Could have been inaccurate fanart...)
