Yup yup. I'm going. Had a blast at Ikkicon, so I'm going to making the long drive to Houston. I think it'll take about 4 hours or so, which isn't too bad. And it'll be my first time there.

Damn that's a lot of cosplay meetups lol. What side of Houston do y'all often have them?

Our cons here in Houston have been making sure lately that the con dates don't override other big events after AM had a stumble with the rodeo a few years back, if I recall correctly.

And I'd love to go to Ikkicon one day, and A-kon especially. But, the hotel prices are a little out of my range.

I'm actually rather sad about Houston's diminishing convention scene ... a few years back we had 4 cons, now we're down to 1 T_T I really wish Oni-con would come back to Houston =/

Preach on, sista..that new A-kon hotel is craaaaazy expensive. We were planning on going all 3 days, now we're prolly just gonna show up to compete in the contest on Saturday and head out. Anime Matsuri is looking like it'll be freaking awesome this year. Marvel Cosplay Contest on Friday, group Marvel photo shoot on Saturday, Cosplay contest on Saturday, World Cosplay Championships on Sunday..ho-lee-cow. It's gonna be a busy weekend.

You know, for whatever reason, I didn't see this page yesterday It just didn't exist. Weird.

Houston: See, it's actually a small possibility. My family isn't happy here, really. While it's a nice enough town, it's small and despite my dad wanting to have a job, no one will hire him. While he doesn't "need" one, he'd like to have one. So he's been looking into getting a job in one of the major cities, like Houston, Dallas, etc. I'd like it too, because I could possibly find a better job myself or at least make more money with what I do.

Water: I live in CenTex, so water for me is a lake that's usually dried up half the time. I used to live on an Island. I miss water.

A-kon: The prices are insane, and I can't even book a room because they want 1 night paid at booking. I'm going, somehow, but not sure how to work out the money issues. It's even harder for me to pay for it all because I pay for the entire room myself, I don't share/split the cost.

@HardcoreNamine, a lot of the meetups are at Hermann Park, but the one last week was at Main Event (I think on the east side...not sure) and the one this Saturday is between sugar Land and Missouri City.

@Sailor Moon, I actually really like Oni-Con's location. It could use some more nearby restaurants but it's nice being across the street from the beach. It's probably going to outgrow that venue soon though since they remarkably managed an attendance increase this past year.

I'm actually really excited for Oni-Con. It'll be my first proper anime convention, so I'm not quite sure what to expect, but I heard a lot of people say it's lovely. Ditto on the costs, though. I'll be driving up there all three days, so gas is not going to be cheap.

Oni Con is wonderful. It's the con I've attended the longest in the Houston area. Although they seem to be in a habit of getting schedules up late, they always have amazing panels, events, and the people are lovely. I honestly haven't had a single complaint except for '10 when some of their con staff was...Well, extremely rude.

However, the last two years I've had nothing but nice people, a friendly atmosphere, and some amazing stuff in the dealer's room. Getting a regular priced $150 Kaworu figurine in there for $65 was quite the steal. And a good quality.
