Walking 2+ Miles everyday at a fast pace.

I am trying to get in shape for myself and also for October 2013. That being said, I am fast pace walking my 2+ mile neighborhood everyday. I plan to start jogging in a month or so, then working my way up to running. Is this a good start out plan for someone who is /not/ the most physically fit? (me)

Absolutely. Know your limits and then keep pushing them

I started jogging last summer and plan to start up again as soon as the snow is gone. I had some help from my iPhone though XD There's an app called 5K Runner (you can try the free version) It gradually gets you going from walking to jogging. The program is 8 weeks, but that's for someone who's already fairly active I think. I went at my own pace, repeating particular intervals until they became easy before moving on. After 2 months I was jogging 25 minutes without pause. For someone like me, that was phenomenal.

That is definitely a good start for building some solid aerobic conditioning and endurance! Might I ask what your goals are in your new workout program?

When starting a healthy lifestyle, it's best to ease into it. That way you're more likely to make the changes in a healthy way, and not give up. You'll adapt much better that way. Don't be like so many people who try to do it all at once and then quit five days later.

A really good start for running is the c25k. Basically designed to get any couch potato running 5 kilometres in 9 weeks.
