Red face Most $$$ Spent?

So this is going to be a confession thread, sort of.

I spent over $300 for a prop replica for an upcoming cosplay I'm doing, and that's not including the materials I need to put LED lights into it.

Anyone else want to admit spending huge amounts of dough on just one part of a cosplay?

It's not really a big lump of money, but I just about died when I paid $55 for fabric alone, not including bias tape or other notions. I wish I could afford to throw money at a costume and make it awesome, but that's as much as I've done.

I recently spent $400, almost $450 on my Jack Sparrow costume.
As well, when I was making a kimono, the outfit required massive amounts of eyelet tape... I don't want to even recount how much I spent buying all of those yards. xD;

$30 on the fur for the P4 jacket. I haggled it down from $40. I was very careful cutting up the fur so it would fit on my P4 jacket collar, but still...... I cut and snipped old fur -- probably from the 50's-- and it still hurt/terrified me to take scissors to it. However, the real fur was a good choice, since faux fur would leave a nasty rash, chafe, be horribly itchy, and uncomfortable in summer.

I don't know if you can count the brown boots or green/white sneakers I'll be wearing for Hanamura, since I bought them waaaaaaaay before I knew about P4. Boots (Roxy)= $80. Sneakers (Adidas)= $60

I think when all was said and done I spent nearly $200 in materials to make a CAPE for my husband's Night of Wallachia cosplay.

Actually no....he spent $300 to get prescription red sclara lenses for the same costume. I think that's why he also cosplays male! Terezi a lot.

Hot damn that costume was pricey. He sure loves it though.

I will (eventually) be spending $900-1500 on a coat for Captain Jack Sparrow

Right now, the most ridiculous price I have paid for one part of my costume is $65 for this thing, plus $75 for these beads for that strand.... lol mine were from a different person though (ACME Brand)

I guess having paid $300 for belts also can count as being a bit pricey

Once I'm fully finished with Jack, I'd imagine that I would have spent $3,000 o___o

Dayam, so far you're the winner here, haha.

But hey, if it's gotta be accurate, it's gotta be accurate.

^ The prices for CJS items are quite exorbitant. But that is because everything (down to every single bead) is color matched and material matched to the screen used item. So, that's the reason for the prices :P

Yeah, alot of movie costume replicas I've seen can be very expensive, but they just means you're getting the best quality, IMO.

lol Ilafatyu- I love your username, and also if you use the costume a much as I do, the money is well worth it (I get into full cosplay at least once a week lol)

RobbyKun- Exactly. I am a huge proponent for screen accuracy (I even was crazy about details for Sweeney), especially since I am now looking into doing this professionally, I need to be as screen accurate as possible

I think the most I've spent on a cosplay so far is my Ezio one. Since I realized only after I got the base from a shop that it was missing a lot of details. Out of curiosity I decided to actually put down everything I've put into this cosplay so far. Here's what I've come out with.

Cosplay base: $220.00
Air Dry Clay: $15.00
Three bottles of Folkart Metallic Paint: $7.47
Alterations services: Free-- The woman that does my stuff is my boyfriend's aunt.
Leather purse [torn apart to make a breast plate]: $10.00
Junk belts: $30.00
Belly belt: $20.00
Necklace: $12.74
Hemp cord: $6.00
Wooden Martial Arts Sword: $14.20
Assassin's Creed Insignia Buckle: $41.00
Hot Glue Sticks: $8.97
Super glue: $9.00
-----------------------------------------------------------
Grand Total: $394.38

And there's still more things that need doing to this. Although it's pretty minute things: Mostly just a custom wig and contacts which both would end up costing me together about $72.00. Which would then make this baby $466.38[not including tax].
