So, I saw a lot of the fabric types and stuff for Merida's green dress but does anybody have a pattern they would suggest? Just curious.
Also, what do you think of this wig? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00

All of Merida's dress can be made using the same base pattern.
http://butterick.mccall.com/b4827-pr...hp?page_id=385 I mention it in the pattern section here. http://www.cosplay.com/showpost.php?...9&postcount=10 The wig you link looks nice but I've never heard of this brand before. http://www.wig-supplier.com/2012-dis...38-p-1779.html If you get it let use know how it works out.

Sorry for the double post but I got that wig in! I like it but I wanted to know you guys' opinion.
It's also a lot thicker at the bottom than it looks. Most of it's behind my back. http://s208.beta.photobucket.com/use...17711605169656

I'm nearly done my dress, and I'm using dress A from this McCall's pattern. My Merry wig is on its way now, and the only thing I'm having trouble with is the caps on the sleeves. Any pointers?

You mean gaps on the sleeves? I used the pattern and decided where those gaps would be based on my elbow and removed that section on the sleeve pattern leaving a hem of 3/8th of an inch.
Same with the top and adding the straps to them. My sleeves ended up being a lot of hand sewing as I worked with velveteen fabric but normally you finish them with a top stitch.

HI ALL! I'm Lorraine and I cosplay Merida! I am a natural red head, with natural curls so only seems appropriate and I think I may a little loner when it comes to that because the only Merida's I see use wigs. I do use extention pieces to make my hair longer, but the rest is all real I recently did a photoshoot for a NJ news paper called the Daily record, and was also the feature of an article on cosplay. It just makes me smile to know how far I've gone in such a short time!

Oy. I went so far out of my comfort zone with my Merida. Not only making the dress, but I altered a wig and made my own props, which I've never done before. 'Twas a learning experience.
The wig: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...43772728_n.jpg The bow and arrows: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...46010374_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...31732019_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...67085581_n.jpg And finally, the dress: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...47716962_n.jpg I'm taking her out for her maiden voyage this weekend, so I should have pictures of the total costume up soon. I'm thinking of adding a cloak, arm guard and a few wisps to my gear, but I'm satisfied with the results so far.
