I have had a couple friends who did this.

I need glasses to see or prescribed contacts.
And I really want coloured ones for cosplay, I was told that some people put the coloured ones over their prescribed pair and I dont now it doesn't seem to safe.

What do you guys think?

I'd just get prescription colour contacts; they're not really any pricier than plano if it's near and far sighted prescriptions you need. To answer the specific question, it can be done, but only for fairly short periods and with caution due to the extra lens cutting off even more air to your eyes- ask an optician to okay it for your eyes and lenses first

Never ever wear 2 pairs of contacts! Its not safe at all! You can scratch your eye, suffocate your eye, loose a contact, etc.

That said, I've done this with the blessing of an ophthalmologist. My prescription is rather high; too high for the color lenses I needed. At least too high for them to be comparable price wise to my regular every-day lenses. I'm not blind (by fault of the contacts), my eyes weren't scratched, they weren't red, they didn't fall out, they didn't "suffocate". I piggybacked orange lenses over my normal prescription for about four or five hours and no misfortune befell me. I followed proper hygiene when handling any time of contacts, I had a back up pair of contacts on hand, I had eyedrops with me, and I took out the colored lenses when my eyes started to feel dry and tired. It's no worse than wearing "hard" contacts, in the case of the two lenses I chose.

You have options. Find colored prescription lenses if they make them. Wear plano lenses and take your glasses off for photos. Ask your eye care professional what their experience with costume lenses is (some of them hate costume lenses even without piggybacking, actually) and if they feel it would be safe to double up on lenses for short periods of time.

But the important part is that you ask someone more qualified than the internet.

DO NOT wear one pair of contacts over another, it can damage your eyes and make it harder to see, I wear plano contact lens and glasses (at the same time) but if you do not have glasses, just get coloured contacts that are for prescriptions. Ill be getting some contact lenses at PinkyParadise, and will probably make them Prescribed as my characters do not usually wear glasses.. But since I can see still without glasses(Just need them for far writing) i do not have to wear glasses. here is a link to the websites I usually order(Or will be) from:

Don't wear two pairs of contacts at the same time, that's a big no no. Try buying circle lenses from honeycolor.com or candylens.com, just click your prescription in the drop down box and order. I bought my Dolly+ blue circle lenses off of candylens.com and i had no issues with discomfort at all.

But that being said there are situations where this is done, specifically with schalera lenses and certain "normal" lenses, (I dont remember what movie they're from but 9mmsfx has a set that's like this it's black schaleras then a mirrored normal lens) but special care has to be taken with these setups, so if you just want to learn first, you might contact 9mmsfx, but before you actually attempt it, I agree you should consult with your eye-doctor. in genneral it's not advisable though

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents as well. I, like Kama, have a ridiculous prescription. My normal lenses have to be custom made so I have a 0% chance of finding colored lenses in my prescription. The "stop being a cheapass and just buy your prescription from [insert store name]" argument does not really apply. Ready-made, cheap prescription contact lenses are not an option for some of us.

I asked my ophthalmologist and was cleared to do this as well and have no trouble since I started doing so 7 years ago as I was also given instruction on wear-time and handling all 4 lenses involved.

I have said this in numerous other threads too but will repeat it. No one here knows exactly what kind of contact lenses you use or your personal eye health so simply saying "No, never do this" or "Yes, I totally did it, it's FIIIIINE" is rather presumptious.

Take your questions about your particular prescription lenses and the cosmetic ones you want to your eye care professional for an answer that suits your unique situation.
