I think any colour at or between charcoal grey and slate would be accurate enough. As for fabric, wool is best (since RAF coats were made out of wool), but I suggest you consider the temperature your friend is planning on wearing this coat in to help shape your decision fabricwise. Wool is very hot to wear, and if you can substitute a slightly thinner twill fabric in the same colour, then that would be a good idea.

Hey, does anyone know where to find a vortex manipulator toy? I saw a couple of people had mentioned having them but the internet does not seem to believe they exist which is a bummer.

This website says they're due in February (probably too late for Katsucon), however, the date for their arrival has been pushed back several times.

You can find them on eBay from time to time, usually located in the UK. But, they'll cost an arm and a leg through there.

Rats, Katsucon is totally what I was aiming for. I'm also bringing pinup girl!Jack to Dragon*Con though so I'll go ahead and pre-order and then just never take the coat off in February, haha. Thanks!

Edit: Thank you ebay!

Well even though it's been a while since anyone last posted here I'm going to post anyways!
I'm going to be cosplaying Fem!Jack or as my friends now call her "Capt. Jacquelyn Harkness, sexiest creature in the whole universe" I don't have a vortex manipulator yet, but my fiance is going to buy me one (yay!) I do however have the Offical BBC Licensed Jack Harkness coat on it's way to my house right now. It cost me a pretty penny, but so worth it.

I want that offical coat SO much. A friend of mine has one and he actually had it autographed by John Barrowman. Plans to steal.. er I mean liberate... it from him are in the works.

also apparently my Jack costume was a success! People at Dragon Con last year kept asking to take photos with me! It was all a bit overwhelming from my first time out in costume.

Setting up an album in my profile with some of the pictures I have managed to snag from people.

With Barrowman coming to Fan Expo Canada this year and me finally finding a decent enough navy blue trenchcoat for cheap at a thrift store, I plan on meeting him as his iconic character this August.

EDIT: Here are a few pics of my cosplay: http://www.cosplay.com/costume/431028/

EDIT 2: Fixed bad link. Sorry about that.

Thinkgeek has the vortex manipulator here, though it's out of stock at the moment: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f0e4/?srp=3

If anyone's wondering, while I was surfing eBay for buttons, I discovered that RAF suspenders were Y-back.

Anyway, I found a lovely gray wool coat at the thrift store, the only problem being that it's light gray. Is there a fail-safe way I can make it darker?
