Here is Actor, Jason David Frank inside the Green Ranger costume, doing a very picturesque Back Stance with a Knife-Hand defense and attack position.

Another fun one, Bruce. Definitely captures the feel of the Power Rangers in the pose, set, and processing (or developing). When was that? I don't know the Power Rangers well enough to put a date on that costume, but IMDB shows him as the Green Ranger in '93-94 and then again in 2004.

I haven't shot any new cosplay in the past several weeks, so here's something a little different.

My local photography club often has photoshoot meetups, and we're always short on models (usually about a 5-to-1 ratio). So for the past couple of meets, I've gone to model instead of shoot. January's meetup had a theme of Blockbuster Movie, to come as a movie character. Here's one of my favorite shots of me from that shoot.

February's meetup is "Super Heroes and Super Villains" - haven't decided whether I'm going to shoot or model. I don't have any suitable costumes, but my wife has always said she wants to put me in a Nightwing cosplay. I don't know if we can whip together anything worthwhile in just three weeks.

Yes. My Green Ranger photo was taken in 1993 during the very first season. Jason David Frank came about 4 months after the other actors, but he did much to create the action feel for the TV show, with his explosive martial arts moves and dynamic poses.

Your cosplay seems to be David Bowie from the movie Labyrinth. It seems to get the point across, if I am right. It would be cool to see you in the full eye make up too, with the slanted, Vulcan-like eyebrows. You have the facial bone structure to pull this off well!

Yes, it's David Bowie (Jareth the Goblin King). I can't do the makeup myself, so I used the makeup artist who was at the group shoot. She was pretty good, but not quite as screen-accurate as the times I've had it done in the past - my usual MUA moved away to go to graduate school for costuming and makeup. I do need to learn to do it myself, this cosplay always gets a lot of great reactions - especially from the ladies my age, who were young teens when this movie first came out

Here's another shot from that day, where you can see the eyebrows better.

Cosplayer Alex AKA Seijin cosplayed as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, for many years. This was in 2009. I think he still cosplays this character, with some modifications.

Nice work with that first action shot. Care to share your setup? Is that all in-camera? Off-camera lighting? Did you have an assistant holding the spear/chain, then let go right before you squeeze the shutter?

Ok...I guess I can talk about how I got that spear shot....I tried doing it the way you described in camera, but holding it and letting go never got the result. It would fall too fast, so I had my friend hold the very tip of the spear, while I clicked the shot. Then I photographed the background without him and the spear there, so I could clone the background over the spear. I also had to erase his fingers by cloning the spear tip. An off-camera flash with umbrella on a light stand was placed camera left at about a 90 degree angle.

These are shots I took for a movie I worked on over 20 years ago. It was an homage to the movie "The Road Warrior". Its working title was "Badlanders". It got released as "Prison Planet".
