Flame Princess - Need help finding a pattern
Hello! I really need help picking a base pattern out to for this lady's dress. I'm usually good at picking patterns out but.. This one has me kind of stumped.
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...alacecolor.jpg Don't even worry about matching the "overskirt" piece or the neckline.. I'm really just focusing on the shape of the skirt! But a matching neckline would be a plus of course. * A note: I'd like the skirt part to be more like this: http://ladygeekgirl.files.wordpress....0731.jpg?w=764 (less folds in the under skirt) than this: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6...rwg8o1_500.jpg (more folds in the under skirt) * I'd really like it to be a brand that I can get from Jo-anns. So.. I'm limited to Simplicity, McCalls, Vogue, New Look, Butterick, Kwik Sew (I forget a few). I only say this because they often have sales that makes these patterns 1 to 4 dollars instead of 11 or 20 dollars! I thought Vogue 2788 would be perfect! ..And it almost is. Except it has alot less "hips" than I'd like :/ Unless I can modify that somehow, but I don't know how to. EDIT: Simplicity 1728 is also almost perfect! ... but the skirt looks waaay to large D: ..unless I can slim it down T.T Last edited by AshofRebirth : 02-06-2013 at 11:40 PM. |

Circle Skirt
I can't say it enough but I swear by them <3 If you extend the Circle Skirt pattern from Simplicity http://www.simplicity.com/p-2238-costumes.aspx and get a A Line Petticoat it will do that effect you want =3 That is what I did for my Ice Queen cosplay ~ Again its bigger since I had a larger petticoat xD http://www.cosplay.com/costume/389747/

Hmmm.. not quite what I'm looking for, but thanks ^^;
I need more roundish hips right below the waist. That slopes down too much from the waist before it becomes round |

Love this pattern myself for a base dress.
http://butterick.mccall.com/b4827-pr...hp?page_id=916 I used it for Merida and it hugs the his nicely. I'm been debating between doing the Flame Princess or Nat's Cotton Candy Princess myself in the future.

Still a little too slim at the hips ^^;
This is exactly what I'm looking for(excuse the lame drawing): ![]() When I say base dress, I mean something I can sew for the overall shape and then only have to add a layer or two for the overskirt piece thing |

To get that shape, you'll need something like a bum roll. Historical patterns are your best bet.
Simplicity 1728 has a nice shape. Simplicity 2621 has a bum roll and hoop skirt. Simplicity 4092 has a pocket hoop. |
