Purple Eyeshadow

I'm currently looking for the "right" kind of eyeshadow for Asami Sato. I've used a bunch of different purples through the years, since basically every animated character I costume has purple eyeshadow (Jessica Rabbit, Molotov Coqtiz, Triana Orpheus), but most colors come out extremely light on me.

I managed to get a vibrant look for one of my costumes using Mehron Paradise, but I don't really like the purples they have. Mac's eyeshadows tend towards the blue/lavender side, too.

Any suggestions for the "right" purple eyeshadow?

Do you have reference pictures?

Have you tried applying the eyeshadows you currently have wet? If you wet an eyeshadow brush and take a little bit of the eyeshadow, it should apply a bit darker than what it looks like when dry.

Also, are you using an eyeshadow base on your eyelids?

Reference picture.

I've tried every trick in the book, from eyeshadow primer to wetting it. Still very light on my eyelids.

Have you tried the Maybeline Eye Studio Color Tattoo cream eyeshadow?

It isn't the cheapest in the world, but as makeup for cosplay goes, its not bad. I adore the stuff. I used it to do a face mask style thing for a fairy convention, blending blue and green and it was awesome to work with. It's got a lovely sheen to it, and can go on as thick or as light as you want. A little bit can go a long way, and they blend really nicely. It comes in a shade called "painted purple"

I got it from Walgreens... But I've seen it at Target, too.

I recommend looking at NYX cosmetics for purple eyeshadow, well pretty much any "crazy" or normal color. The purple shade I used for my Drocell was really vibrant and stayed put all day long with primer. Purple or Luxor would work well for your character. NYX can be found at Ulta and some other chain stores.

Those NYX colors look on the money. Another option I've spotted is this Almay shadow palette for brown eyes. Almay also has a purple liquid eyeshadow you could use as a primer for a powder product.

Coastal Scents eyeshadow is pretty close to the best damn eyeshadow I've ever used, and I've never really had a problem with it "not looking the part." It's not the cheapest, but frankly it makes for a veeeeeery handy tool.

Another brand that's great is Hard Candy, which is actually just from Walmart for like $6. I actually have a baked eyeshadow that's exactly the same colour purple as that girl in the picture. You have to wet it, but once it dries, it's preeeetty vibrant.

Also seconding those saying NYX. Next to Coastal Scents and Hard Candy, it's my next choice.

I agree with Khorrupt. I have a Coastal Scents 88 eyeshadow palette and it's amazing! The eyeshadows are very pigmented and there's a ton of shades to choose from. It's $20... but if you cosplay a lot and need different colored eyeshadows - it's a great investment!

Purple is one of those colors that's very difficult to get exact because it can be too light, too dark, too blue or too red. MY suggestion.

Use a PURPLE base such as a NYX or J.Cat Beauty Jumbo Pencil then apply the shadow of your choice over it. In the makeup industry real makeup artists mix their own colors from what they have so you may end up finding a purple that's too light and another that's too dark, mix them until you get the right color for you. If you're trying to find the perfect purple among products out there then you're going to be looking for the rest of your life so make it yourself.

Now the second thing is do you want a matte shadow, shimmery one or satin? I would suggest BH Cosmetics or Coastal Scents or Shany Cosmetics palettes because you're going to get a wider range of shadows to play with plus a variety of mattes and shimmers to work with.

In the picture you provided the purple is two different shades since the one over her left eye is lighter than the one over her right since there is a shadow over it. Do you have a better picture of the character? I own all the BH Cosmetics palettes along with a ton of other make up because I'm a beauty blogger so a better picture can help me give you some better tips.
