I bought a Pentax K-01 (it takes all the same K mount lenses that I use on my K5) and after it comes back from a full spectrum conversion I may build a lego shell around it. It's boxy enough to where that might work out well.

I had a K-01 for a while. A nice camera not considering the design. I kind of wish someone would hack together a K-01 into the style of a film LX or something. Though, it would have to be a bit thicker than the original.

Tuned the dispersion pattern of my DIY beauty dish the past couple of nights. My first try with the reflector cone wasn't up to snuff. Tried a CD (shiny side up, attached to the far end of the 50-ct CD cover), but I didn't cover up the inner hole, and it left a dark spot in the middle with a smaller hot spot. Then I tried a CD covered by mylar (shiny side up), and the dark spot evened out, but still dark when the CD was attached at the far end of the 50-ct CD cover. I then moved the CD/mylar reflector half-way in, and the dark spot was gone, and the overall light output was much more even. So I found a 25-ct CD cover, and used that with the CD/mylar reflector, and all was well. I get to try it out this weekend on real people, so I'l try to put some shots soon.

I made 2 grid spots using small drinking straws and cardboard from a box of cereal.
The final project fits over your speedlite flashhead and you get that tight circle effect. Saw the idea on strobist somewhere . actually worked out pretty well. Made one with shorter straws and one with longer ones. Pretty easy project. |
