Personally, since it's your own design, I would say its an original design. Most original designs are inspired by something, and yours is inspired by a cartoon pony.
But then I have no authority or experience regarding Costume Con itself, so that's just my opinion.

Yes that's right. Unless it's a direct recreation, (or near close), it's definitely an original design.


e.g. a Harry Potter cosplay, or a My Little Pony costume of one of the existing characters would be recreation costumes. If you designed and made a Harry Potter My Little Pony costume, since it's not cannon and it would be your own design and blending of the characters it would be an original design.

Ooooh I can't wait~! I'm just having a hard time deciding which two of my recreation costumes will be entered in the Fantasy Sci-Fi masquerade under recreation. So difficult.... might be the one that's part of a pair.

Just need to decide on a fourth. Unless I decide to rewear something that I'm very proud of.

Well I've decided to make Regina's "apple dress" from Once Upon a Time for this. Bought Lace in black with silver and Frogs knots for it so far. Sourced patterns as well.

The fabric still giving me a headache due to the unique floral 4 tone brocade. (I wonder if I could get it manufactured? But not Spoonflower/digital printing). I love to get into contact with the wardrobe crew to see where they got it. >_<

Blackend blue, Navy Blue, dark purple and a silver grey.

Random note I saw Mood Fabrics location in New York when visiting.... dang if it's not a good idea to travel there again but I need a camera first instead of paying travel and boarding. lol

So I need to look for charcoal velvet and charcoal microsuede, and royal/dark blue glitter tulle. Huh. I sure hope that fashion and fabric district I'll FINALLY get to go to when I'm a fashion student next year in Toronto has those two things.

I've got two plans for Costume-con 32; SO EXCTIED!!!! doing an orginal and a historical.

For original I'm getting an artist friend (my drawing skills are a sad sad thing...) to help get it down on paper and paying with various ideas till I'm happy. We've been having way to much fun working on it. It's going to be a gown based off a dragon. A very elegant, yet deadly Queen design. So excited! Already started gathering materials even though the design is still being tweeked.

For historical I'm doing Elisa Doolittle's iconic gown from My Fair Lady which I am ccrrazzzzyyy itching to start on. It has personal meaning to me and has been a dream since I was a wee-girl to one day wear. First step: tackle the best part aka the hat.

Can't wait to see everyone's amazing work!

So I've finalized Regina's poison apple dress from Once Upon a Time and Soryuu Yami no Matsuei.

Regina fabric is still a PITA to track down but Soryuu will be wonderfully easy and cheap to get a hold of his fabric. Which is good because he's got so many layers!

I feel like my idea for a historical costume is not impressive compared to everyone! I am going to have fun with mine though, so I am excited for it. I am also excited to see all your work!

I'm probably over-thinking things (I have a tendancy to do so), but I'm wondering about the Historical Masq. I'd like to make an outfit based on a character from a comic book which takes place in the 30's, but I'm not sure whether I can do a direct re-creation of her outfit (with some research to support the style/fabric choices), or if I should forgo reference-accuracy for historical accuracy where needed. I suppose I'm saying that I'm not sure where the line between "historical" and "historical interpretation" is, especially since I know that the comic's writer and artist are pretty good about doing their research to begin with.
