After the smash hit success of my "HIM" costume, I've started taking cosplay even more seriously, which I why I have chosen yet another lanky twig-of-a-man to cosplay as next April. I would like to know what you all think of me, as ...

1. I HAVE started the overalls, custom made from black denim, however, only the bottom part is finished, cause my darn sewing machine decided to pack it in :/ I'll provide a photo once it is done.
2. I'll be making an even better mustache. This one has pink on the back of it, because it was cut out from a "Smith's Chip's" packet box. I may even apply some black cellophane hair to it, to make it look even realer.
3. The nose was made of truly terrible nose putty, so I could only use it once. I'll be getting much better nose putty for the real thing though.
4. I plan on embroidering the Γ onto the gloves.
5. Same with the hat. The emblem is all wrong.
6. Should I try and grow my own side burns, or buy some fake one to match Waluigi's extremeness?
7. I'll buy some more fake elf ears, my other ones are orange, due to being used for HIM's costume.

Have you tried growing sideburns before? I would vote for fake sideburns that are a color that matches the mustache.


If it were me, I'd probably go for a more "realistic" version - a false mustache made of hair instead of cardboard (still oversized and absurd though); and bruised-looking black eyes instead of cartoony light blue eyeshadow.


Keep us updated, he's one of my favorites.

Why do you keep cosplaying awesome characters?! Waaahhh! I cannot wait to see this finished!

And I second above, however it is up to you. If you manage to pull off the cartoony version better, more power too you!

I actually love that you went the cartoon-y route with this.

If you were to do everything else realistic and the nose comically large and pointed, I think it'd look off.

Haaa Thanks for all the replies, guys!!

However, I am aiming for a more realistic one, like what Brawl did, so I am using black denim for the overalls instead of cotton, or something simpler. When I cosplay, I believe in bringing a character to life, like a true actor, so I try my best to make a realistic, but still true to the original costume as I can.
Besides, cartoony ones have been over-done. Almost every single Mario character (Apart from Peach or Daisy) I've ever seen uses either cotton or store bought overalls and shirt.
I want to be original. As for the mustache, I shall glue "cellophane hair" to the cardboard. This will keep it's distinct shape, but make it look like a real mustache.

I got a new sewing machine, so there will be pics either today, tomorrow or within the week of my shirt, and overalls.

Cool! I love it when people making mario characters! (working on a luigi and daisy right now from the NES Open golf tournament

I would also agree with using some sort of hair for the mustache and side burns ( I was planning on making my mustache out of black fur felt with poster board interfacing)

When you're done with the nose, I would also suggest making it more pink.

Here we go, with an almost entirely finished over-alls and shirt!!!

Because I can't, for the life of me find my damn camera battery charger, I had to use my webcam toy to take the photo.

I just need to sew up the sides of the half, embroid the gloves and hat, get my WAA face on (Mustache, nose, ears and sideburns) and it is complete!! (Then I must get onto making my friend's Luigi costume, and my own Lemongrab!)

Well, here you go! Enjoy this for know, until I get it sewn, possibly tomorrow, and get a proper camera to take the photo!





Now for the questions on you guys.

1. Should I put tiny little gold buttons on the cuffs, and pockets of the over-alls? Mario and Luigi in brawl had them, but Waluigi does not (I suppose only cause he was an AT they didn't put as much detail into him)
2. Buttons, too big, too far apart? Should I paint them a different colour (Slightly lighter? Or are they good? I like them this way)
3. My web-cam and terrible lighting in these pics distorts quality and colour. (C: )
4. I feel the straps are too thick for Waluigi, I'll make 'em thinner. Right now they resemble a store bought costume too much, and Waluigi's costume is meant to emphasize "skinny"

I agree with changing the width of the straps to make them a bit smaller.that's all i can see to change though. Looks great so far!

Would it be possible to make the top of the overalls a little tighter?
It seems a little too baggy in the sides.

I'd like to see a fully body shot to get an idea of how the overalls look as a whole.

I made them much thinner, and they look really good with my new buttons I recently got. (They are flatter and actually metal)

Highly possible.
Those photos were taken before it was all sewn up. It is now sewn up and fits snuggly as the 3D models make it look.

Also the skivvy will need a little less room under the arm pits too.

Well, I -FINALLY- got myself some photos, even if they were not taken by my own camera.
Anywho, here's some shots that were used as a promotional set for my town's new Lolly Shop.
(So I am not in-character, nor do I have the correct facial feature at the time)




Still have yet to
- Get a photo of the racket painted correctly (Which I have done)
- Get pointy shoes (preferably plain wooden clogs)
- Fix logo on hat and gloves
- Still considering a new skivvy cause this one look far too blue, even with the great quality camera and lighting used in this shot.

Any further tips are greatly admired.
