Huge Drill Curls for Rozen Maiden

I've seen a few tutorials but, they are all for Mami from Madoka.

This has never been attempted I do not think for the costume I am trying to make it for. It is A very long base wig--with large drills in the back. Most people just use a curled wig--I may end up doing so in the end. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I came up with is similar to what the person did here but altering it so it is suitable for the cosplay. I, however, don't know if this is the best option as I am unsure of the weight of the final product.
