My first time cosplaying I chose a character that I thought I looked like.
Same colour hair length/colour,same eye colour(definitely not the same physique >_< ).

Everybody thinks that I look like Fuu from Samurai Champloo when I cosplayed her.
Most people didn't even realise that I was wearing a wig and thought it was my natural hair

I naturally look like Telma from Zelda:Twilight Princess...Dark Skinned and Plus Sized..ain't much characters I look like. Which is why I just make them dark..then I look like em more. I naturally am like Euphemia from Code Geass if you add 130lbs to her and darken her skin. Am more like Orihime from Bleach naturally personality wise.

When I first started cosplaying, I had the right colour and length hair for Tohru from Fruits Basket, except my hair didn't have bangs.

Once I cut my hair and dyed it to my current colour, I ended up looking like Eiji from Prince of Tennis. My hair even flips like his, and it's natural!

For the longest time, I used my natural hair for Liz, from Soul Eater - except straightened. But I just hacked it off this last summer and dyed it bright ginger, so I had to get a wig. XD But the hair was the reason I started cosplaying her. (Well, plus I was able to get a group together for it, too. =p)

If my hair were a couple inched shorter, I would apparently be a perfect real Yoh (Shaman King) My hair is naturally a dark brown, and I don't give it as much attention as I use to X3

Talim from Soul Calibur. I used my natural hair which was also the perfect length at the time (I let it grow since then).

I've never encountered a character that I look a lot like. I think I can pull off pretty much any character I cosplay, though...lots of contouring makeup really helps with that, haha. (Well, I don't think I can pull off Trisha [Catherine] very well, and I'm way too pale and skinny for Ayla (Chrono Trigger), and certain characters I don't look particularly like but can still pull off.)

I've been told that I make a really good Maj. Kusanagi (like, people stopping me in the halls of a con days after I've worn that costume just to tell me that I make a really good Maj. Kusanagi), but when I cosplay her, I feel like I look too much like myself? Maybe that's the point, haha. Obviously, I still need wigs and stuff for her, seeing as I have long, light brown hair and she has short, dark purple hair, and I don't think my face looks much like hers, but I've been told by multiple people that I make a really good Major. I personally think that I make a really good Julia (Cowboy Bebop) and that is probably the only time that I have factored who I look like from a series into choosing a costume. I don't look too much like her normally, but I think that with the wigs and makeup and everything, I can pull her off really well.

All of my cosplays require wigs, and I tend to wear a lot of makeup to change my face to look more like the character.

I think I tend to pull off elegant and/or serious characters better than any other type, but maybe that's just my character preference showing through. (I certainly feel I pose better for characters that require "look stoic" or "look wistfully into the distance" than for characters that require "look cute" or "look playful.")

OH! thought of one, but I haven't done it.
With my glasses on, I look a lot like Katherine McBride (Catherine), but I can't stand her character, so I wouldn't cosplay it. If Doom's Bride wore clothing, then maybe someday I'd consider doing that... (I guess I can always do a tattered wedding dress?)

Claudia Grant from macross. Same hair cut, body type, eyes, lips, slightly lighter skin tone though.

I have with my costume of Lupo. We both wore our hair the same way and look identical, so I just had to cosplay her

My first cosplay was of Lyra/Kotone from Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver versions because I looked like her.
One time at a convention someone even came up to me and told me my Lyra was the best Lyra they had ever seen, even though mine was a quickly thrown together closet cosplay. Apparently I just looked like the character enough to excuse all the blatant inaccuracies of the costume.

I'm also currently working on a Crumbelina Di Caramello cosplay for the same reason. I just didn't want to buy another wig so I could be one of the other Sugar Rush racers.
