Birdarangs

(Is this the place?)

What's a good material to make one of Robin's birdarangs out of? My usual approach to weapons is papercraft, but since these are smaller, I'm pretty sure they'll be taking a bit more of a beating than my usual paper weapons. I'm looking for a medium that I might be able to get a decent result out of without dumping a pile of money into it or having to work on them for months just to get one right.

I could do something like clay, which I suppose is a viable idea, but what kind of clay would be best? Model magic tends to crack, as does air dry, and I know sculpey has to be pretty thin for it to bake correctly. Suggestions? (About clay or other mediums?)
