When I started to make costumes for basic cosplay, I weighed 240, and lots of people seemed to like them. So long as you make the right costume in the right proportions, there shouldn't be a problem. Just have fun, that is what cosplaying is all about after all.

i'm a bit hefty myself, but for my costumes i do want to start losing weight, really there is nothing wrong with cosplayers that r heavy set, i see great costumes at the cons by plus sizes and as one i think have been quite alright, keep on cosplaying i say

old thread, but i'm so glad i found it! i'm certainly what you would call full figured. i'm big all around, but i still keep most of an hourglass figure. and i love cosplay!

i'm planning on cosplaying as Princess Serenity from the manga, which probably right off the bat is a good idea. flowy gown=good? plus it has a corset being built in. but i'm glad to see i'm not the only one self concious, and that my boyfriend isn't the only one who thinks full figured women can make awesome cosplayers!! thank you for this thread and boosting my confidence.^^

This is the addendum I add to every thread like this. If you ARE on the chubby side and you're cosplaying a sexpot character... do it because you love it, because YOU'RE having fun. But don't get upset if someone thinner gets more attention as that character. Few people can be DEAD ON when it comes to a character, especially Anime characters. But some people are closer to the appearance and shape of them and will, more than likely get more attention, even if your costume is better constructed. Does it suck? Yep. Is it going to change? Well, don't hold your breath.

Why not? Has it lost relevance?

After a quick search it looks like there is only one other thread on the topic so it really depends on how she searched or whether or not the other topic really fit what the poster was looking for.

I'm certainly 'full-figured'. I'm in the process of losing weight, but until I get to a size that I'm comfortable in, I am particular about what exactly I cosplay. It's not saying that others shouldn't do this, but I'm not comfortable in a short skirt just yet. Again, though, she shouldn't be so down on herself. Trust me, not everyone who cosplays is a size 8 or less. Cosplayers come in all shapes and sizes. It's the accuracy of the outfit and the fact that you're having fun and meeting people that counts.

Ooops. I didn't see that this was an old thread.

I don't think body type matters for about 95% of costumes, and thank god, because I'm one of the larger cosplayers as well. All that matters is how good the costume is!

I'm going to otakon as Inuyasha and this guy I know said"i'm sorry to break it to you but you are a large black man". I think some people feel cosplaying is only people who they feel are "hot". This is way I tend to see guys only really trying to get pictures of girls not guys. I few years ago I saw a couple and asked for a picture and the guy moved out of the way and I asked him to be in the shot as well.

I don't consider myself large, but I have gained over the years since I started cosplaying and it's made me very insecure. I go to the gym, eat right, and take supplements but having a stationary job where I sit 8 hours a day makes it hard to get back down to as small as I was =(. I don't think it matters what size a person is however. It's more important to be happy with yourself and your health.

Btw Kerotani, that's awful. People that would say that have no business cosplaying. Physical appearance doesn't matter. Cosplay is a fan interpretation of characters anyway, no one is going to really look like an anime character lol. I wish people would stop senselessly discriminating.
