Questions about creating a first weapon prop:

Hello All!

Attempting to put together my first prop. Have it narrowed down to the following:

1. The ambitious I am crazy side.... http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/71086

2. The Middle ...... http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/71085

3. The one I should probably do....... http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/78418

So now that I have that out there....

In your perspective, which of this is a good one to try to tackle. I have about 7 months, so doesn't need to happen over night. My hesitation with number 3. is how the gem is like floating and the top part is not connected to the pole..... do people just fake it when its not connect and connect it anyways?

Should you have time to fancy me with suggestions on build out I would appreciate it I know I will be probably dealing with, foam or expandable foam, paper mach, and pac or a wood dolly

Thanks for input guys! Have a great day!

all of em have a floating crystal, theres probaly some jewlers wire/thread
that would work for that,
#3 i cant think of how, cause like you said, the top piece is not connected,
you could just connect it, it wouldnt be wrong to do

start with wooden dowel base, id say use 2in, 1in diameter is probably on the side of barest minimum
as on the parts that stick out, your going to want to have "bones" as WoW 3d modeling calls it
so youd either drill a hole through the main staff and glue a smaller dowel into it
to serve as a base for the parts youd be paper-macheing, or foam sculping

or cinch on a "collar" piece to serve the same purpose

the way im seeing it, the dificulty comes in at, how good at paper mache you want to be
and knowing how to apply the colouring

I really would just go w 3 ESP if u have NEVER worked w the materials b4. As far as the floating gem, id cast it out of resin and go buy some thin solid plastic tubes (like the fancy stir sticks but stronger) when u cast the gem you can place these on the edges then whatever material u use to make the staff (my rec is spray foam and PVC) you can glue it down an it will seem like it's floatig
