Her not caring or caring doesn't really have any bearing, her point stands up either way. So no she doesn't lose credibility as her point does not rely on her caring, it relies on others as that is the subject of her post.

Thanks Suntory_Times, glad to see someone was able to use their critical reasoning skills to understand my point.

I feel bad for the families of everyone affected by today's tragedies and I hope that blood donations do go up around the country as a result of people's desire to help. I simply wish people paid more attention to victims of tragedy, regardless of their location.

A little saying called "practice what you preach" comes to mind. I tend to think "if you have such a problem with it why don't you do something? Pinoy doesn't.... she just bitches.

Dear pinoy, kindly fuck off. My state is dealing with enough as it is without idiots like you spewing nonsense.

27,000 people take part in the race. 22 people hurt.

Praying for everyone that has been injured or killed
This is horrific and tragic.
My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone.
I could never fathom why someone would do this.

FIXED for accuracy. Trying to point out there's "more pressing matters" to be aware of within 24 hours the bombing doesn't show critical thinking, it just shows that you're an asshole.

You're new here, so let me be the one to tell you that Pinoy's M.O. is to bask in how everyones else's grasp of any given situation is narrow and uninformed when compared to her own. And her caring has EVERYTHING to do with her point, as she used Iraqi fatalities as a means to criticize people in this thread, when she should have gave it its own thread if she cared so goddamn much.

EDIT: I hereby give Pinoy the nickname "Blurp," as in "Blurp blurp blurp if other people realized blurp blurp blurp 1984 blurp blurp uninformed blurp blurp blurp atheism blurp government conditioning blurp blurp blurpity blurp."

Prayers and good wishes are appreciated in situations like these. I understand that people feel bad and helpless, especially when they are far away. But there is something you can do. Boston hospitals may not need blood right now, but your own community might. Don't have $100 to send to the Red Cross? You can probably still afford to drop a dollar or two in a local donation box somewhere. Does this help Boston directly (or get as much attention as posting on Facebook)? No, but it does help remind you and the people around you that even though people sometimes do terrible things, the world doesn't have to be a totally shitty place. If nothing else, you can pause for a moment before you say or post something that might be kind of douchey and ask yourself, "Is this something that really needs to be brought up right now, or would it be kind of douchey to do so?" If the answer is yes or even maybe, then don't post it. The world will be a slightly better place.

Pinoy does sometimes have good points. This is not one of them. As a tiny contribution to making the world a better place I will not post the response to her that I had in mind. Instead I will link to this highly amusing article about the Monkeysphere. It discusses why it is that we naturally have stronger feelings about tragedies that are closer to home but also reminds us that we should try not to be assholes.

So sorry for the loss and suffering of those innocents. Prayers and love go out to those harmed and their families. I'm still in shock about this.

Still many unanswered questions. The knee-jerk reaction is revenge and justice.
We must calmly look at this for what it is and not let emotions lead to a course of action.

How will this affect future public events? Will we lose more freedoms in return for security?
It's always the few crazies who ruin everything for the majority of decent people.

Never lose sight of the fact that these dangers in this world are real. Learn to love and live life. We must understand that it comes without guarantees.

Ya know, I'm not the praying type, but leave it to cosplay.com posters to shit up a thread about the Boston bombs of all things.
Just sayin

Pretty much this. There was all this speculation about an Arab in custody (turned out to be false), and some people are rushing to point fingers, before the police know a damn thing about who did it. We need to restrain ourselves from doing that, it really does no good.
At least it's useless, and at worst, it could lead to more innocent people getting hurt thanks to vigilanteism, or just plain bigots using this tragedy as an excuse.

Here in Halifax, we've got a special connection to Boston- when we suffered the Halifax Explosion on Dec 6, 1917, Boston was the first American city to get a relief train up here. In thanks, we send them a Christmas tree every year, to commemorate their kindness. I wonder if we'll do something for them this time around? Even if they don't need a load of supplies and medics, some kind of formal condolence would be nice.
