They may (or may not allow it). Though, you'll really won't know until the con is happening and you get it inspected there. (As your all ready aware of they don't approve before con). The best you can do is review their "Prop Policy" and check the "Prohibited Items List to get an idea if you think they'll approve it or not. There isn't much else you can do unfortunately until the weekend of the con.

(IMO) I think they might allow it. But, again it's all up to if they approve it or not at the con.

I'm guessing you'll probably be okay, but I wouldn't worry about bringing it for nothing.

If you had a 11 foot scythe or a massive prop that would be more concerning. But your sword looks no larger than my Rangiku sword. It wont take up to much space to travel with.

IMO, as long as the edges and tip aren't particularly pointy and it's wood that isn't heavy/strong (like able to do damage to people if you hit them) then you should be fine. Like everyone's already said, you really just won't know till you get to the con - it sucks, and I know you're anxious, but that's the way it is. The con is one month away; I'm sure that if you were really worried, you could find another way to make a different sword that might be more likely to make the check, such as insulation foam. Like I said, the swords sounds like it should be fine. Even if it isn't approved, they can store it at the convention for you, so I don't quite see what the problem is. I wouldn't worry about bringing it for nothing; why not just try anyways? The worst they can say is no, and you seem to be comfortable with not having the prop anyways, so...it just seems to me like it wouldn't make a difference even if you had to have the con staff store it somewhere. If you didn't bring it but see someone else with a similar prop that was approved, you might feel bad for not bringing it, y'know?

I just read their Prop Policy and it does say "no swords" and goes on to say this includes "bamboo" and "practice swords" so I would say it's unlikely, though I suppose you could bring it anyways and hope they say it's okay.

All items as listed in the Prohibited Items list are not allowed. There are no exceptions to this, regardless as to whether the item is functional or not.

Metal blades (knives, swords, sharp items, etc). Practice swords including bokens and kendo bamboo practice swords.

(I actually opened this thread because I had the same question, regarding wearing a wooden sword - somewhat disappointing.)

thats what i wad wondering to0 :/ . I even checked the anime convention in Connecticut's weapon policy page and they accept them so, i dont know why anime boston cant accept them. But , i assume it might have to do with the bombing. But it still doesn't make sense when other cons in near by states are fine with them.

Actually, the updated prop policy happened before the events in Boston; they just didn't get to post them until later: http://forums.animeboston.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16595
Someone on that thread did say that as a general rule the Hynes Convention Center doesn't allow wood, but I can't vouch for that rule myself since I haven't read it.

Not all wooden swords were allowed in past years. I have brought multiple swords made of wood and some were not approved because they were deemed to heavy, and if for any reason I went psycho and starting hitting people with it, I could cause some serious damage.

If you have props you are competing in the masq or cosplay games I'd let them know, staff really does try to help as much as they can.

^^ I worded that terribly, tell the staff at con, then they may be able to help.

Con staff have posted multiple times on their forums that they can not and will not approve weapons and props before the con - you have to bring your item to the check in area to get it approved or whatever (I'm not sure where this area is, as I've never had to bring an overly large prop with me, but I'm sure its listed on their website somewhere.)

Also, different conventions have different rules, some of which are because of past experiences at said con and some of which are because that's what the convention center or even the state says they have to do. While it would be helpful, you really can't expect every convention to have the exact same rules regarding props.

I think its a law in Massachusetts in general that wooden swords are not allowed, and as such, AB doesn't allow them? I know you can't sell them at the convention since they are considered actual weapons.
