I have just completed compiling a tutorial for making mecha/ gundam costumes. Please note that this is not pepakura and that I do not use pepakura and I have no pepakura files/design with me. Here goes:

This is seriously an amazing tutorial!

Can this be modified if somebody wants to make armor like the ones that the main characters wear in "Sonic Soldier Borgman" and any chance there could be a PDF version of this tutorial be made available in the future for download?

I think with that much Velcro it would take two to suit up. I've never tried the contact cement for mecha because of the vapor now I’m curious.

Amazing tutorial! I didn't read it all because it's past midnight and I have class in the morning, but my favorite bit so far is: "running or jumping in a mecha costume does not make you a hero"

in my experience, these kinds of costumes will usually (I want to say always but there could be exceptions) require two to suit up. Even my simplified Iron Man suit required a second person to put it on me. It's like medieval armor. Knights needed squires to help them put on armor because you simply can't bend or reach certain places once pieces are on. You want to move pretty carefully, too, which makes it even harder to dress yourself in something so complicated.

Thanks=) I guess this tutorial is more suitable for big mechas and not so for human armour ...there should be a lot of human armour tutorial out there =)

dizzymonochrome: Thanks and you explained whatever that is in my mind =)

awesome tutorial. I'm working on my first mecha cosplay and this will help a ton. Might have to try altering the patterns a bit (I'm doing Wheeljack. G1 transformers have a lot more straight lines) some of the shapes are actually more complicated than i need. Do you think this would work with really thick heavyweight cardboard? and opposed to building platforms do you think I could manage using platform boots? might be a tad shorter but maybe more comfortable?
