That blog post that I linked you was one that I'm creating. It's my spear so far.

It is super easy to sand the hexagonal little pipe stopper that I'm using for the very end. Pvc in general is super easy to sand. The threaded connectors I'm using though, those are not hexagonal and are perfectly round like my pipe(they have 4 little "wings" coming off the sides, but like I said before it is super easy to just sand off. I'm also fairly confident that they would not be able to come out of the pipe even if I didn't use glue since I have to hammer them in. Though with some of that Pvc glue they become rock solid. The downside was that it was super hard to find connectors with the same diameter as my pipe, in which the threaded part would fit perfectly inside of it.

Oh yea also, I have never painted PVC pipe. But I hear just straight painting the pipe will easily chip off. Is this true? If so what kind of primmer should I use?

My terrible english was trying to describe what Why_00 did XD. The threaded part fits snugly into the pipe if you find the right connectors. Just play around in the home depot aisle and you should find one that works. After putting in the dowels to connect the chains to each pipe I'd really suggest coating the whole spear in some kind of plastic or body filler so it's all even along the shaft. Did the same design for Ikkaku's shikai from bleach and it worked really well.

Paint wise spray paint holds pretty well, but like anything you still need to be careful with it

Yea lol I totally understand now. Don't worry about how you worded it then haha That might have just been me not knowing very well what you meant. She on the other hand had pics which is more how I learn rather then words. I'm sure if you had pics I would have gotten what you meant lol It's just how I am. So on this idea you have for covering the pole, What kinda stuff are you talking about? I've never used anything like it so this time it's just I have no idea haha I was just not gonna worry about the dowels being noticable when painted, cuz it's such a small thing, no one will really notice..I was planning on just priming then painting instead of worrying about covering the dowel area.

I think that Reilala is talking about Bondo(or something similar) as the body filler to put over the top of it. I was pointed to that as well when I asked about possible materials for making this spear. I looked at how to use it and it looks like it will take a ton of sanding to be able to achieve a good result. Time right now I don't have. I resorted to a product called "sculpt and coat" to do the job of the bondo. it requires less sanding and has the added benefit of being able to be put on my foam spear head. It's water-based so will not eat the foam, unlike bondo.

One think I wanted to let you know about the PVC connectors I was showing you is that they are really fragile. I accidentally hit my spear handle on the ground and it broke apart. There are still some threads on there I can use, so i can screw it back together, but it's more fragile in those spots then ever. It looks good though

Was thinking either Sintra or Bondo. Bondo will probably be cheaper but take longer to sand unless you have a power sander. The Sintra should be able to melt/form right around the pvc

Did a little reading. It seems you can paint PVC pipe, but it'll require a little work to prepare it.

First would be roughing up the edges a bit and then coating it with Krylon Fusion Paint which you can buy in several places in which prices vary so this you will need to shop around for. Then afterwards you should be good to go for painting.

I would personally love to see progress on your spear, you should go ahead and post the progress photos as you take them.

Update #1. Oh I guess it'd be good to say, first, I ended up starting last night lol

So I decided to just go with the cardboard spear head. I tried using a hot knife but it freaking sucked and I refuse to use that for smaller props now..So Anyway, I can do WAY better cuts on cardboard. If anyone wants, I can explain exactly what I did in detail (includuding general measurements) if anyone wants any.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps25284218.jpg

That is so far for one side (yes you can see the other side next to it lol I didn't finish the diamond part for the other one yet. And the glue is still drying..Btw, don't use gorilla glue in place of wood glue on cardboard..It takes forever to dry, and is way more messy..I usually use elmers wood glue on it and it makes it basically indistructable..But I'm out lol

Also, I'm having a hell of a time with the connecters for the pipe sections..None of them want to work right..

That is looking really cool. It's also really neat to see the different directions we went to make the spear head but they are both coming out equally awesome.

I posted the "tutorial thing to help you with the connectors here http://emileighsartcorner.tumblr.com...-madoka-magika

I hope it's easier to understand and actually ends up helping you with them.

Thank you. I actually half-ass tested it out. I put a section of pipe in between both parts and so on, and it fit's great. I think I may need to labke the bevels wider though. Not 100% there lol

And I saw on the PM. I PMed back too about that

Update #2!!

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3383143/

I finished the cardbard cutouts for the spear head. Looking great. I am currently gluing the dowel inside that I am holding on to in these pix. The dowel is covered in tape to be thick enough to snugly fit inside my pvc pipe. The pipe and the flar middle area are flus to eachother for a great fit and look.
