It's a common thing that Insanity damages somebody's knees. I read about it a lot before I bought the discs (I'd never exercised before) and my brothers complained of knee pain. After my first week, I felt it too, but stretching and a nice plush carpet makes it hardly noticeable. Honestly, my calves are what're crying out in pain.

Drazhar, you have inspired me to get a mat so I don't have to wear socks for grip anymore.

Nice comment though.

Also, not aimed at you or your friend, more a suggestion for the TC.
Oh, okay. Never mind then. That was the only thing I was commenting on. I agree with you about the mats.

It is always important to be aware of your own fitness level, problem areas (knees, back, etc), and strengths when determining what type of surface and footwear is appropriate for you. As a practiced runner and someone who is "light on their feet" (I keep my weight on the balls of my feet), I found wearing any type of shoe during Insanity extremely uncomfortable. I greatly prefer to do it on a hardwood gymnasium floor in bare feet, my second preference being a carpeted surface and socks only. I've been doing it this way for months and have zero complaints. This might not apply to the OP, but it's something to keep in mind for others interested in trying the program.

I did my first run last year after having had three knee surgeries in under 10 years, the first two weeks had me contemplating quitting. Went to Dick's Sporting Goods and got a basic yoga mat, it's blue and like... 84" or something?

It got me through the rest of the program, even with my known joint issues.

I cannot praise mats highly enough.

I'm desperately trying to loose 10 lbs in about a month and a half. Would Insanity help me achieve that goal?

Bottom line? Yes.

It'll still require some nutritional effort from you though.

That's entirely fine. I don't ever splurge on junk food and usually follow a strict low carb diet.
