Well you only have one side of the story and even in her version of the events she assaulted others. There is no middle ground here, if she isn't just making it up what she did was undeniably wrong and unreasonable. As for the people she assaulted, it is hard to say as we only have her version of what happened (in which she admits to assaulting people), they may have simply been playing cards and she has made up a story to try and justify her behavior (although it still wouldn't).

I however am with Bm-Atticus and am calling BS on this and shall give it no more of my time as I view it to be likely nothing more then attention seeking behavior based on some made up stories.

Nitpicking your costume is bad enough, but namecalling like that is just inexcusable.
It definitely pissed me off, and I had some pretty choice words for him...But I managed to keep my cool and tell him to /not/ call me that. And when he said that last part, I kind of snapped and was like 'I'm 15, you're nearly 20. Grow the hell up." (OTL I was actually 14 at the time, but I turn 15 in nearly two hours so I just said I was 15 to him) He slunk off to go smoke with his buddies after that, but I was still pretty steamed. I avoided him for the rest of the con. And gave him some pretty nasty glares when he approached me as 'France' when I was Belarus the next day....(He didn't even know it was me, and thought my glares were in character. pft)

XD That made me laugh. It's hard to actually show you're pissed off as Belarus without people thinking you're just in-character.

CrossedCrowns, I'm glad you said something to the guy, even if you didn't call him all those choice names. Sometimes people need to be called on their BS.

And the story with all those assaults- if that did happen, then not cool! Yes, that first guy needed to catch some kind of hell for damaging somebody's costume like that. You would have been quite justified in calling for security. But beating him with a heavy weapon like that was over the line.
As for the other creepers, kicking them in the face was over the line. Did they deserve a good telling off? Hell Yeah! But unless you were in imminent physical danger, there was no need of that.

In either case, something could so easily have gone wrong- a prop solid enough to be used as a bat could easily do somebody a serious injury. And if something had gone wrong fishing those drunken doofuses out of the creek, it would have ended very badly.

...I can't even. Like, this guy was wearing a USA shirt, a regular old bomber jacket that looked nothing like America's own, and a pair of jeans.

Now, I'm never one to ever diss anyone for what they cosplay, and I know I'm about to go against myself, but...

You can't show up in regular old clothes and call yourself America, and then turn around and tell me that I'm not wearing a canon outfit. (The one on the far left is what I cosplayed. I'm aware that I made my tie shirt thing a little longer...I'm not comfortable with showing that much skin OTL)

TL;dr: Some idiot called me a whore and it made me saaaad
This sounds like the guy was just butt-hurt by the fact someone doing the female version of the character he was did a much better job. But hell, even if you didn't do better than he did...who cares? It does not ever justify calling someone a whore and being rude.

It sounds like you responded very maturely to this situation....how can anybody be so mean to someone so cute D: I love your Fem!America cosplay ;w;

You know, I've never really received a rude comment but an insult. I was cosplaying as Mako from The Legend of Korra, with my best friend as Korra. She's a bit taller than me, and the shoes were sort of last second. As we were leaving the dealers room, some guy was like "Hey, wasn't Mako taller in the show?"

I played it off and turned around and was all "C'mere, let me slap you," all teasingly. (This con is too important to me to lose my temper over that!) but I just walked away. But I guess it was a bit of a downer, as I work very hard on my costumes, I put in the effort to do all I can, and someone has to make a comment like that... Oh well. :/

Hey, so I just thought of a thing. Does anyone else notice the majority of posters on here are Americans? Do you think that's the number of americans on these forums, or a comment on our culture?

I'm going to guess by rule of majority. I'm not American (Canadian, here), annnd I've had a FEW rude comments, but in my seven years of con-going, it amounts to.... one every two years? I dunno if it's me just avoiding drama/haters in general at conventions or cosplaying mostly obscurer characters that I've had very few rude comments or that us Canadians genuinely are less rude. I'm also 23, so I avoided most of the "really snotty teenager" age of many congoers since I went to my first when I was 17.

I posted this story in another thread asking about good scar concealing products. I'd like to share it here too.

I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and had to have a hysterectomy. It left a rather long and large scar on my stomach from above the umbilicus to below the bikini line. In my opinion, I thought the scar didn't look too bad, so I decided to do a dream cosplay of mine that I had been planning for awhile.

The costume showed quite of bit of my abdominal area, which includes the scar. I had a person approach me and say, "Could you cover up your C-Section please?!
That's disgusting! " Needless to say I was very upset. It wasn't a C-Section, it was a freaking tumor!

To be honest, I really don't care too much about my scar showing, but now I know how mean others can be when it comes to things like this. Due to this experience, I'm afraid to do anymore characters with a visible midriff. It makes me feel uncomfortable knowing that others can see it.

Omg, this is TERRIBLY RUDE! I know what it's like to have tumor scars, as I've had two tumors in the past 7 years. It's a freaking SCAR. You CAN'T help it. I wouldn't care what others think. I would cosplay whoever I want to cosplay.

My Rude Comment Story:

I was cosplaying as Naruto one time and someone came up to me as I was smiling for a picture and told me "You're hips are too wide. Oh and by the way, your teeth aren't straight enough to be ANYONE." Then they just walked off. I just stood there, humiliated and red faced. I was so mad, I went back to my room and sat there for an hour to calm down. Needless to say, I missed the panel I really wanted to go to.

*sitting here in shock over how rude* Some people just have no class. I mean really, they didn't even know you! It's ridiculous to just assume something like that, but even worse to say it to the persons face :/

I understand having scars, I have a large one of my own. It's from heart surgery and runs between my collarbone and my natural waist....Scars are a symbol that you survived, wear it proud! Don't be ashamed or embarrassed when other people are idiots.

So, I was recently at a small gathering of cosplayers dressed as, of course, the awesome Prussia from Axis Powers Hetalia. Everything was going more or less fine until a comment was made to our Hungary as to whether or not she'd pair up with either Austria or Prussia. Of course she'd willingly pair up with Austria, but and I quote:

"If we had a cute Prussia, maybe I'd pick him."
"But you have a really handsome one right next to you"
<points to me>
<I start smiling due to light embarassment and mild happiness>
"Uh...I said CUTE, not black!"
<my mood instantly died>

Needless to say, everyone else got really quiet. I just turned to look at her and walked off. A few others tailed after me and tried to cheer me up, but the damage was already done. Why does this keep happening to me? Am I that bad of a cosplayer?

No idea of how you are as a cosplayer, but in this instance your just dealing with someone who is clearly racist. The only time I could see myself caring at all about ones skin color is possibly if the character had a very specific skin color that was a big part of who the character was (eg: Geralt from the Witcher perhaps). But even then if it is done well who really cares?
