Question Sandy skin effect?

Hi cosplay.com!

So I'm pretty much done for my cosplay for NYCC 2013. I have 2 questions that will help finish things up:

PROGRESS SO FAR: http://ruggala08.deviantart.com/gallery/40516304

1.How can I make my face or part of face and arms look like they are made of sand? Obviously I can't spray spraypaint at my face as that would be very dangerous and stupid. Any suggestions welcome.

2. How do I get this haircut: http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/...-sandman_1.jpg It seems to be a dark red color. I have no idea how to simulate that stripe pattern into real life. Once again, I'll take any suggestions.

I'm guessing you're wanting to blend the props into the skin or do you want to be sandy all-over ?

I'd probably consider doing body-paint with some actual sand mixed in (since sand shouldn't be toxic or dirty and more than anything you would use to simulate it). Or you could add the sand after painting and use an adhesive if you have to.

I can't really tell what that haircut is supposed to be. Is it really striped or is it just kind of curly ?

It reminds me of Superman : http://colettestirling.files.wordpre...hris-reeve.jpg
Finger waves : http://kontrolmag.com/blog/wp-conten...nger-waves.jpg

You could do that or you could make a cap that you just put over your real hair - like sculpted and molded latex or something. It would give you a really cartoony and unreal look while the curls would provide a more realistic take.

It'd be a pain to get off.. But maybe PAX? D: Since it also really /is/ a glue.
I'd be worried normal body paint would just fall off eventually.
