Simon Gurren Laggan Jacket help!

So for my brothers birthday I decided I would get him a cosplay for Simon from Gurren Lagann, however while I have the wig/goggles/drill necklace, I'm really stuck on the jacket. I want to make it but my sewing skills aren't great and I have cosplays I need to finish by the end of the month, but all the jackets for sale are far too expensive and I just need the jacket, nothing else. Can someone give me any tips or recommend an inexpensive jacket (I'm thinking $30 or less.)?
Thank you!

Unfortunately, just for the materials to make my Simon jacket from Gurren Lagann, it cost about $60. So I'm in significant doubt that you'll find one for $30. The best I could say would be to find someone who has one and maybe borrow it or use it as a pattern to make one, but then you still have to shell out the cash for material. >.< Sorry.

Joann's is your best friend. You can always use 50% off coupons. It should make it alot cheaper. Use a basic cotton, they have it for $4 a yard. Get a pattern for a scrubs uniform of a mens jacket. The yardage you need would be on the back, it shouldn't be more than 3/4 yards.

Get some for the emblem. Put fusible interfacing on the back then cut it out and satin stich it to your jacket. (:
Should be pretty easy! (:

Actually, for a pattern, I used a robe pattern. Not like a bathrobe, but a hooded wizard robe. Then I just modified the hood into a collar by chopping off the top part of the hood and putting some fusible interfacing in it.

Oh that's a really great idea! Thank you very much! I can't imagine it costing very much that way! (I probably wont use material as nice as yours!)

Uh just to let u know the robe is going to go more of the jacket he takes from kamina, not the jacket from the beginning, but this might be what you want. You can also (if u don't want to buy more fabric for the design) buy fabric paints or fabric paint medium and acrylic paint!

I used a trenchcoat pattern. Joann has "Matrix" costume pattern that will suit your needs nicely. The flames and logo I painted myself. All in all the costume took me about 3 days to finish the painting takes the longest part.
