Aladdin's (Magi) magic carpet turban

Hello. I'm currently helping a friend with her Aladdin cosplay and I'm kind of getting stuck at the turban. It seems so easy to make, but the way I've been trying just looks so off to me.

What I've done is make two half circle, sewed them together, and pined a twisted fabric going around the base. The whole thing just looks like a chef's hat no matter how big I make the half circles.

I'm probably just over thinking it, but please help!

Maybe this beret pattern can help you out? Maybe you can stuff something inside to make it poofy.

What does it look like now and how is it being worn ?

I'd probably not use half-circles but just one big circle and use stitching around the edge to gather it in.

The "twisted" portion might need to be bigger, I could see that being one of the issues but hard to say without a photograph !

Thank you both! (I completely forgot to subscribe to this thread and never got a notice that someone responded. Sorry for the late reply.)

I actually did what Kelley suggested last night and it worked great! Almost -perfect-. Just need my friend over to try it over the wig before I sew it all together.
