Seras Victoria Cosplay Advice (First Timer)

I need all the help I can get. I've managed to get away with not sewing my own cosplays for a long time (either by modifying clothes, or by having a a friend who could sew help me). But I'm gonna grab the bull by the horns here and just try it.

I want to try to start with Seras Victoria as the first cosplay I sew myself. I know its probably ambitious, but I am still excited to try and do it!

I'm looking for all the advice I can get. Which sewing patterns have other cosplayers used? I can't seem to find the right pattern anywhere!

What fabric would be best? Just from looking at other cosplays, I'm thinking either cotton or stretch poplin.

Any other advice to a first timer just wanting to dive in head first? (other than don't get frustrated/be patient? haha)

I look forward to any and all replies!

EDIT: Reference image of Seras uniform here
The only difference is I would like to do the red version; seen here

you wont find the perfect pattern, you're going to have to find a close pattern and modify it... it shouldn't be hard to find a basic pencil skirt pattern, and a military jacket pattern, but you will have to mod it to be like Seras's... I know there is a store on Etsy that sells PERFECT Hellsing badges... can't remember the name though...

Here's an idea for a shirt pattern (view B): http://www.simplicity.com/p-6615-mis...g-fit-top.aspx You'll need to adjust it, obviously, with an additional pocket and misc. pieces.

And here's one for the skirt (view C): http://www.simplicity.com/p-5828-mis...ew-skirts.aspx Just close the vent/slit in the front and shorten it.

I used a skirt pattern for the waistband and just measured out a tube of fabric at the length I wanted. For the skirt I used an old button up shirt for a pattern. Good luck
