Temporary hair color?

Hi! Can anyone recommend a good temporary hair color? Something that won't rub off on my skin but will wash out? I have had black hair all my life, but I dyed it red as a joke... it turned the most gorgeous plummy red I've ever seen- I'm talking Erza from Fairy Tale here- but I have a con coming up where I need my black hair for Tifa Lockhart. OTZ

I really don't want to get rid of this color permanently just yet, so how can I have it back to black for a few days/a day?

The only thing that will make your hair temporarily black is that halloween color hairspray, whih will flake off and generally look horrible. Your best bet is to get a wig. Any "temporary" dye, especially in black, will take longer than a few days to come out and will probably not come out completely.

Unfortunately I don't think I have time, or the money, to get a wig. I'm okay with it taking a while to wash out, and even a really dark brown would probably be more accurate anyway. I just don't know of any decent brands to try.

I have been reading a little bit about hair chalk. I have not used it yet myself, so I can't really say how effective it is, but it's an alternative to using temporary dyes or spray.

I heard that it can be messy to apply, but it'll stay in for about a day and then wash out. I also heard you could use pastels to get the same effect, which can be bought at most craft stores. It usually works best to darken hair, and since you're going red to black, it should work.

But again, I haven't used it yet, so I'm not entirely sure how effective/polished it'd look!

^ black hair chalk exist but it doesn't really produce a solid colour.

If you can afford a $15 dye I think you should go with a wig. Here are some local US sellers.

If you do go with a temporary dye expect that you will not get all of it out. On a good day it takes 6 weeks but most linger for months. Both times I've personally done temporary they where not temporary at all! I took a full year to get back to my natural colour. lol

I love my grandmother

I love my grandmother... I love her so much. I have no idea what that goop she just gave me is, but it works. It's apparently some temporary dye she got ages ago and transferred to another container. Whatever it is it turned my hair dark brown and came back out in one wash. Even better, it weighs my hair down. I may not even have to straighten it. If I ever figure out what this Godsend is I'll tell you but until then I'm just a happy Tifa~
